Dead or Alive - Part 1My eyelids feel heavy as they slowly begin to flicker open.
I blink, close my eyes, and blink again.
Everything is blurry.
I sit up, drag my feet off the bed, and rub my knuckles onto my eyes.
I can't help but wince, as my hand shoots up to rub my throbbing head.
It feels like someone had taken a knife to my skull.
Still groggy, I try my best to look around the room.
My heartbeat quickens as I take in the unfamiliar scenery around me.
For a second, I half wonder if I'm still dreaming as I sit up to take in the shafts of starlight that burst through the gaps from the windows above.
Okay, so it's nighttime.
The room is dark, but I can still make out the room fairly well.
It's small and everything looks worn down.
There's a bed, which I'm sitting on, in one corner, a small table beside it, and a dresser on the other side next to the door.
The whole area is unfamiliar, and the only thing I know for sure is that I have no clue where I am.
I try to think, willing myself to recall what I last remember.
Asher was hurt....
You were running from Jett....
You fell down a ditch and hit your head....
Someone came up to you....then you blacked out....
Shit.
Jett must have taken me.
I shoot up from the mattress, but quickly realize how futile that is when I feel a searing pain come from the bottom of my left leg.
I fall hard against the wooden floor with a cry of pain.
Now I know I'm awake. Perhaps more fully awake than I've ever been.
I lift up my pants leg to see the area where Jett shot me, only to find it bandaged back up.
Why the hell would Jett bandage it up?
He's the one that fucking shot me.
I look around the room for anything I can use to prop myself up with.
In the far left corner next to the door, stands my sword.
He left my sword too?
Is this dude really this stupid?
Hobbling over, I grab the sword and use it to prop myself up as a crutch.
