song - Say Something by A Great Big World

~"I'll be the one, if you want me to
    Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I am feeling so small
   It was over my head
     I know nothing at all"~

Millie watched him toss and turn all night, jumping at every single noise that he heard from outside his bedroom window. His eyes were wide and fearful, but underneath everything, they were curious. That was what got to her more than anything, that he seemed like he wanted to know more about what was happening. He wanted to look further when most people just wanted to turn away. Finn stayed up all night, watching the room as if willing for some object to move, for some kind of noise. He wanted a simple sign, that there was somebody there, and that he wasn't just going crazy.

She stayed silent, not knowing whether he could hear her as well as see her. She was terrified to utter a single word, knowing that the moment she did, things would change forever. She was huddled in the corner of the room, her head resting on her knees as she watched him, knowing that if she still had a heart, it would be beating out of her chest.

"I know I'm not crazy" he muttered to the empty room, looking around as if expecting her to reply, "I know that you're there."

Millie held a shaky hand over her mouth.

He stood up suddenly from his bed, turning the lamp on before glancing at the clock which read 5:17 am. His body seemed tired but his eyes were determined, looking around the room with a purpose whilst Millie stayed frozen. He started moving forward, slowly testing the waters as if hoping to bump into whatever he felt again. He wasn't sure what he had felt, or if he was even dreaming, but he had to find out. Millie's eyes widened as he slowly walked to the outskirts of every corner, slowly reaching his hands out as if trying to reach for her.

When he got too close to her, she gasped and moved away just in time for his hand to brush nothing but more air. She moved away whenever he came closer, almost as if he could sense where she was going to go, like their connection had become stronger.

"Are you a ghost? A spirit?" his eyes turned wide with panic, "a demon?"

She scoffed slightly and his ears perked up.

"I heard that! Say something else, please..say anything" Finn pleaded, tugging on his hair harshly. "I-I need to know if I'm going crazy."

Millie bit her lip gently, forcing herself to stay quiet as he sat back down on his bed tiredly. After a while, exhaustion took over and Finn fell asleep, a sigh of relief escaping her lips. This was getting out of hand and she didn't know what to do next. Part of her hoped that Finn would let this crazy theory go eventually and forget what he had felt, but another part of her knew that she couldn't be so naive.

There was nothing that she wanted more than to touch him again, to feel his skin on hers, to feel the warmth and buzzing beneath his bones set her own skin alight. It had made her lifeless body feel so free and important, like he could see her just by touching her. She wanted to go further, to see how close they could get before the law of physics drew them apart. She wondered if he could help set her free and to figure out why she was still here, but she felt selfish to take away his sanity just so that she got a better life.

After Finn had got a few more hours sleep, his awful friends came around without asking yet again, throwing open his bedroom door like they owned the place. She rolled her eyes at their useless apologies, rambling on about how they didn't realize that the deal would turn out so badly. She could tell that their apologies were half-hearted.
