"Go on then, I'm not getting any younger here." impatience lingering in his voice.
"I was just wondering about the storms," I reply confidently
"What about them" he leans back in his chair and takes a smoke of his cigarette.
"I know they're dangerous and many people have lost their lives because of going out in them...." I look down. "I was wondering i...if I could go-"
"No," I'm shocked "No one is to leave this house until March comes."
"But-"
"But nothing!" he yells "That is the end of this discussion! No one leaves this house!"
"I just want to see what it's like!" I say back a little louder then I intend.
"Alexandra! You are not going outside, have you forgotten what happened to Rose?! I will never forget that day!" My sister Rose passed away when she was 5 years old, she sneaked out because she left her doll outside. Debris hit her and just like that she was gone.
"That won't happen...I promise." I tell him biting my tongue. I start to feel tears spike the corner of my eyes.
"Alex, get it through you're head you are not going!" The room goes deafeningly quiet. I feel a tear roll down the side of my cheek. He looks down back at his work and ignores my presence. What was I honestly expecting? Him to just agree and jump up and down with me?
I turn around and grab the door handle quickly. As soon as I'm outside the room I shut the door and lean my back against it. I slum to the ground slowly still up against the door. Tears pouring down my face.
"Why did I ask?" I say to myself quietly between sobs, "Why did I ask?"
