We both stand in silence not knowing what to say. I begin fiddling with my hair, twirling my finger around my brunette locks.
"So..." we both say making us chuckle nervously.
"You go first," I insist, looking into his bright green eyes. I never noticed how pigmented they were until now.
"So.. how old are you?" he asks shyly.
"17, you?" I reply, sitting onto the damp grass which I immediately regret.
"17? You don't look it," he admits moving closer as if he thought I was joking. I look older than most 17-year-olds. It's probably because I'm super mature...Hahahhahaha, that was totally just a joke.
We talk for ages about different kinds of things. About songs, books, shows, everything and anything. I think about asking him where he sleeps but decide against it. I don't want to piss him off, especially since we are getting along so well. Just then he says something that turns my cheeks bright red.
"I can't believe you're outside in February with a complete stranger," he laughs, "I could do anything to you and no one would know till morning," I pull my eyes away from his gaze feeling uncomfortable.
"You say the weirdest things." I joke pulling my knees up to my chin.
He stops laughing suddenly and looks at me, then down at the ground again a smile lingering on his mouth. We remain silent for a couple of minutes before I cough and change the subject.
"So...do you mind me asking personal questions?" I say quietly, scared he'll erupt again. It takes him a while to answer but shakes his head in response.
"You get 2 questions, that's it," he holds up two fingers to make sure I understand what the number two looks like which makes me chuckle.
I wonder what I should ask. I don't want to make it too personal that he gets mad. I only have two questions after all.
"Tick tock, tick tock. My offer only remains open for only another three minutes," he teases tapping his imaginary watch.
"Okay. Okay!" I laugh, "Where are your parents?" I start.
"I don't know," he states.
"That's not an answer."
"Well I don't, I never knew them. Why does it even matter about my parents?" he says.
"It doesn't...never mind," I say calmly, "Where do you sleep?" I ask instead.
"I don't sleep."
I sigh, "February, you said you would answer my que-"
"I am! I don't sleep, I can't, even if I wanted to...I can't," he frowns.
I look at him with a confused expression on my face, and he can see I'm confused, "Why can't you sleep?"
He sighs looking down. I don't want to push him too far. We barely know each other, 'You don't have to answer it's okay...I'm just being nosy," I stand up from the ground rubbing my trousers. I didn't realize the time going. He looks up at me as I prepare myself to say bye. He stands up to meet my eyes only inches from me. He looks into my eyes with intensity, his green eyes piercing mine. He starts moving closer so I begin to back up without thinking.
"February?" he doesn't answer. My back hits the trunk of a tree making me gasp. He places both of his hands on the tree trunk trapping me from moving. Did I make him angry? What if he hurts me? He moves his gaze from my eyes to my lips. I begin breathing heavily.
"You have...the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen," he says looking into my eyes with deep concentration.
"T-thanks..." I stutter.
He doesn't move his position for a while forcing us to look at each other. He looks at me as if he is trying to read me like he's searching for something.
Oh boy! What are you doing?!
He starts leaning in towards me shortening the distance between us.
OH MY GOD!! HE'S GOING TO FREAKING KISS ME!!!
