cute turtle tots! the turtles are about 7years old in this. the plot is a bit silly but they're just lil kids so it works hehe
also some of the facts here may be inaccurate! please don't hate me for this I just searched it up lol
Raphael looked around the lair, observing his brothers. Donatello was reading a book that was deemed far too complex for a 7 year old to be able to comprehend, and yet there he was. Michelangelo was of course drawing, laying on his plastron and his legs swinging. Leonardo was nowhere to be seen, probably trying to copy their masters katas. They all acted the same as usual but the air was a bit tense.
Raph sighed, Spike looking up at him in concern. It made him smile slightly.
"I'm fine little buddy.." he said softly to his pet turtle, feeding him more lettuce.
But in fact, he wasn't really fine. All day he had been feeling strange, a weird feeling in his stomach. It started during breakfast when Mikey pointed out the eye colors of the family.
Flashback to breakfast
Little Michelangelo, face full of algae and worms, spoke up in the middle of breakfast. Rather loudly too, so it was impossible for anyone to still be a bit groggy. (You do not want Mikey's voice to be the first thing you hear in the morning)
"Master splinter.. why do we have different eyes?" he asked, spitting out chunks of worms while doing so.
Splinter sighed and put his chopsticks down.
"My son, we have spoken about this, we do not talk with our mouths full of food." he looked Mikey straight in the eyes. Hoping secretly that it would be enough to at least keep the little ball of energy quiet for the rest of breakfast.
But Mikey didn't get the signs and continued on shoving food in his mouth, and spoke up once again. "I know sensei, but you still didn't answer my question."
By now the other three turtles had turned their attention away from their breakfast and were all staring at their father, eager for an explanation. Their eyes were big and very curious.
"Must we talk about this now?" Splinter tried once again to end the conversation, but judging by the way all his sons shook their little heads that wasn't the case.
"I wanna know too master!" said Leonardo, he had already finished his bowl of algae and had full focus on his sensei.
Looking around and seeing there was no way his sons would let him get out of this, Splinter sighed once again.
"Alright then. But after this, I do not want any more questions and we will end our breakfast in peace and quiet, understood?" the young turtles nodded.
"Eye colors are caused by a pigment in our body called melanin-" he started but was stopped by his second youngest son chirping "I read that in a book!!"
Splinter managed a smile. "Yes, that's right Donatello. Now let me continue."
"As I said, the colors are different depending on the amount of melanin in our bodies. Do you all understand?" three of his sons seemed to understand, and even though Mikey nodded along, he really wasn't understanding any of it.
"For example, Donatello has more melanin in him than Mikey, because his eyes are brown."
That made Mikey frown, and he muttered "Why can donnie have more melalalanin than me?"
Splinter shook his head and smiled, "Michelangelo, it is not something you can choose."
"However," he continued, "it is genetic aswell. For example if both the parents have blue eyes, it is most likely the baby will aswell."
