Just splinter thinking about his boys in the past, present and the future :)

this is a lil different from how I usually write but I hope you still like it, don't forget to vote and comment!

Past.

Sometimes Splinter missed the old times. Being human was something he missed, and he so dearly missed his wife and daughter.

He was now forced to live in the sewers, in fear of his own life. He was no longer human, but rather a huge rat. At first he was disgusted with his new form, but he had now learned to grow into it. Who knew a tail could be so useful?

And his small turtles, who had also been hit with the strange glowing ooze, were also effected.

They were no longer basic box turtles, but instead they had been affected by his human dan and were now displaying human activities. They had grown larger, and were rather cute.

At first Splinter treated them as his pets still, but after a while he realized it wouldn't work. They needed a father, and Splinter stepped in. He had missed taking care of someone anyway.

He started treating them as his own sons, and in return they gave him all the love he could ever ask for.

He used to think of his new form as a curse, a punishment for something he had done in an earlier life. But now he thought of it as a blessing, a second chance at life.

If he couldn't give his daughter the life she deserved, he would make sure he gave it to his sons.

The days were rough, especially in the beginning. Having enough food for the 5 of them for the day was a miracle. But, it got better.

He loved his turtle babies to death.

'One day, my sons' he thought to himself, 'I will be incredibly proud of you.'

Present.

His tiny babies soon enough turned into teenagers.

Puberty was a wild ride, but thankfully he had Donatello to help explain it all. Even if he did have to step in sometimes, they didn't need to know everything.

They had gotten significantly older, maturing into very fine young men.

But as they sat there at the dinner table, their eyes glistening and begging their father to tell them the story of when they got mutated, he couldn't help but think of them all as his babies. They were still so young, so naive. Were they really ready to go to the topside?

Recently the turtles had been whining and begging even more than usual (if that was even possible).

Before it had been easier to say no, they were small so he could just pick them up and put them in the naughty corner if they were being annoying. Now they were much taller and their muscles had definitely grown. If he really needed to stop them, he could still, but he has to be able to let go.

After losing a child and a wife already, he was very protective of his sons. What would he do with himself if he lost anyone else?

But, he had meditated on it countless times, and deemed it was finally time for them to go. But of course, not without the obligatory warnings; look both ways before crossing the street and do not use the public bathrooms.

As they all left the lair on themselves for the first time, Splinter watched them go with a sad smile.

'They will be fine' he reassured himself, 'you have done everything you can, they will know how to protect themselves.'

'I am proud of you, my sons.'

Future.

His sons were now 20 years old. Oh how time goes fast.

He was no longer physically with them, but he connected to them spiritually as much as he could. He would do anything to be able to hold them one last time.

At first, his sons tried contacting him as much as they could though meditation. It helped the wounds heal.

But.. after a while, these small sessions would be less and less frequent.

It started with Donatello leaving, having so much to do and think about, he had no time for an old rat like himself.

Then it was Raphael. He always had trouble with meditation and he had the hardest time letting all this go, he figured he would heal faster if he just forgot about it.

Then there was Michelangelo, his youngest. He tried his best to stay connected with their father after his death, but he had a hard time staying focused and Splinter had a harder time getting his words across in this form. He lost patience.

Last standing was Leonardo. Even after all these years, he still kept in contact with his sensei. They had pleasant conversations, but it always need with Leonardo asking a question he shouldn't be asking.

But one day, he asked a very surprising question.

'Father,' he started softly, 'are you proud of me? Of us?'

That made old memories come back to Splinter's mind. He smiled kindly at his oldest son.

'I have always been proud of you.'

there you have it!  love it or hate it.

I know some things don't really make 100% sense but just go with it lol
