Chapter 6

Erica and i arrived at Ryder's house at 9 PM after she spent over an hour making my hair and trying to cover my puffy eyes and the dark circles under my eyes with heavy makeover.

After Paul broke up with me;all i did was cry,stuff myself with junk food and sleep.

I had earlier agreed to attend Ryder's party but tonight all i wanted to do was curl in my bed and cry myself to sleep but Erica wasn't going to take no for an answer.She practically dragged my ass out of bed;saying that i needed to have fun and get over Paul.

I followed Erica into the house filled with teenagers;dancing and grinding as we looked out for the rest of our friends.

"Over here."Samantha yelled over the loud music waving at us.

"I'll go look for Eric and get us a drink."Erica said to me

I brushed past a bunch of people as I made my way to Samantha and some group of girls.

"You look great Karen."Samantha complimented me as she passed me a cup of drink

"Thanks dear,and you too." I smiled taking a sip of my drink.
"Did you get this recently?"I asked taking a look at the tattoo on her hand with the inscription 'Happiness is free'

"Yeah,I got my hand tattooed few days ago."She replied admiring her hand

"Oh,it's nice."

"What's up girls?"Ryder asked as he came to where the girls and i were seated

"I can't believe you made it Karen."He said turning to me

"What?Are you surprised or you don't want me here?"I asked teasingly

"No,of course not.I'm glad you finally honoured my invitation."
"Come on let's go have a dance."He demanded,dragging me to the make shift dance floor.

"No way;I can't dance."I argued

"I'll teach you how to."He insisted

"Okay but first i need to find Erica."

"She's having fun with Eric and some friends at the pool.come on loosen up,one dance won't hurt you...would it?"

After what seemed like hours to me;which I'm sure was just a few minutes,I got tired of dancing.

"Ryder I'm tired."I complained

"Would you mind a glass of water?"He asked

"I wouldn't mind."I said following him to the kitchen

"You okay?"

"Yeah."I replied placing the empty glass in the sink.

He folded his arm and sat on the kitchen island."So uhmm;what did you apply for and which college did you apply for?"

"I haven't applied yet.i'm not sure about college this year because my brother just got admitted."I explained "What about you?"

"I'll be going to the Military Academy but i haven't decided on which on."

"Mmmhh i see;someone wants to be like daddy."I teased

"No,it's not what you think.it has always been my dream."He replied scratching the back of his head nervously

"That's nice."I muttered

"Hey Ryder."Erica greeted as she came into the kitchen

"Hi."Ryder responded

"Where have you been?"I asked interrupting their pleasantries

"I was with Eric at the pool.I came to check on you and Samantha said you left with Ryder so i didn't want to bother you but we have to leave right now."

"Why,what's wrong?"

"Nothing serious,my granny has texted me a million times.if you want to stay back it's fine,I can have Eric or Ryder take you home."

"No I'll just go with you."

I was beginning to enjoy Ryder's company and Erica came to cut it short.i said  goodbye to Ryder and the rest of our friends then followed Erica to where she parked her car.

"Wow!what was that?"She asked me as we got into her car

"What?"

"You were talking freely with Ryder back there and i am sure you enjoyed every bit of your conversation with him

"What was i supposed to do?you ditched me for Eric."

"I'm sorry about that."She apologized

"It's fine."I assured her

"What were you talking about?"

"Nothing really,we were talking about plans for college before you interrupted."I said emphasising on the fact that she interrupted our conversation

"Please don't crucify me,I didn't know you were in the middle of something."She chuckled

"Karen."

"Yeah?"

"Did Ryder mention anything to you other than what you just told me?"She asked curiously

"No,why?"

"He told me he likes you and asked me to talk to you but I feel it's not the right time because you're fresh out of a broken relationship."

"Okay...enough of Ryder talk.can you move this car please,I miss my bed badly."I sighed

"Yeah sure but please don't mention it to him,I want him to the talking himself okay?"

"You can count on me."I assured her.
