Chapter 25

I was really pissed off that Ian brought that good for nothing ex boyfriend of mine to the house but then he explained to me that he didn't know him and that he was in desperate need of a ride home so he accepted his offer.

"You never introduced him to Dad and I.I only saw his picture once so stop acting like a wounded dog." Those were his exact words and it was true.

My Dad returned from the hospital that evening. After unpacking and tidying my room,I joined my Mom in the kitchen to prepare dinner while the boys were relaxing in the living room.We ate dinner as one big family as we caught up on old times and this very moment reminded me of the day they discovered I was pregnant for Future.

"How has life been treating you?" Dad asked me

"Life's been fair to me Dad. I have an amazing family, a son,a job,a roof over my head and wonderful friends." I answered

"Grandma,chicken please?"Future requested

" Sure Darling, you can have as much chicken as you want."Mom served him more chicken.

"How's Erica and Moni...what's that her name again?"

"It's Molly."

"They're all doing good,except I haven't spoken with Erica for sometime now."

"Why?Did you too fight?"

"What?No way.We've just been too busy recently but I'll call her."

"Thanks Dad, thanks Mom." Ian greeted and cleared his plates.

Dad got up and pecked my Mom "Thanks for dinner Mad,I'll be upstairs." He then ruffled Future's hair "I'll see you both tomorrow."

I cleared the rest of the table and did the dishes.After putting my son to bed,sleep wasn't forthcoming so I made my way to my brother's room but I stopped mid way when I heard hushed voices coming from my parents room.
I stopped at the door when I heard someone sobbing. A part of me wanted to leave and give them privacy but another part-the nosy and very inquisitive side wanted to stay back and listen so I leaned against the door frame to eavesdrop.

"You need to calm down Mad." Dad told her.

"Calm down?really?"

"What do you stand to gain Rob?"

"She has to know Mad,it's time."

"Yes,but not like this"

"Then how Mad,how?I screwed up and I've got to fix this." Dad said in a low voice.

This time, Mom yelled at Dad."You'd do no such thing Rob. The girl's happy, please don't ruin this."She pleaded.

"I can't believe you're saying this." Dad scoffed.

I didn't even realise they were done arguing. I was still glued to the door frame when someone opened the door. It's too late Karen, too late.

"Karen?"

"Dad.hey,uhmm...."

"Were you eavesdropping?" He asked me.

"What?No.I was heading to the kitchen to uhmm...you know grab some juice when I saw something that looked like a big rat run into your room and I..."

"You were going to kill his big rat with what?A book?" He shock his head and walked past me.

I didn't even realize I was holding a book.You're such a terrible lier Karen.
I didn't bother going to see Ian, I just made a 360 degree turn and went back to my room.
I laid on my bed,staring at the ceiling and stirring tirelessly as I thought about what my parents were arguing about. Nothing made sense to me at all,at least not now.
