I was going to visit my Doctor today for my second ultrasound appointment.I was eight weeks gone when i had my first ultrasound.
I'm twenty weeks pregnant and my doctor scheduled me for a second ultrasound to assess my baby's growth,check my baby's organs for abnormalities,examine my placenta,measure the amniotic fluid level and determine my baby's sex.
I was sitting in the waiting room with Alice,waiting patiently for my turn.
When my parents finally got to know that i was pregnant,it was really hard for them to digest. For some unknown reasons my mom didn't freak out like i had expected.My father and brother couldn't hide the fact that i disappointed them but my mom remained calm even though she was mad at me.
They made arrangements and sent me to Chicago where i would stay till i have my baby.
Alice;my mother's younger cousin has been very supportive.When i was down with depression,she and her husband-Aiden supported and helped me till i recovered.
My parents told everyone who asked after me that i moved to Philippine to stay with a family member and study.Erica was the only person who knew i was pregnant and she promised not to mention it to anyone.
"Miss Karen Robert."The nurse called bringing me out of my thoughts."You can go in now."She said
"Oh,okay."I smiled at her as i stood up.
"Good day Doctor Colin."I greeted as Alice and i entered his office.
"Hey,Karen.how are you doing?"He asked me
"I'm great."I replied as i sat down while he exchanged pleasantries with Alice.
"Hope you're taking good care of her?"He asked Alice
"Of course i am;even though she can be very stubborn at times about taking her medication."She answered.
"Come on Karen you shouldn't joke with your drugs you know.unless you don't care about your baby's wellbeing and your health."
"I know Doctor."I sighed
"Alright so,"he began standing up from his seat "let's get started."
He ushered Alice and i into an adjoined room in his office. He instructed me to lay down on the bed while Alice sat on a chair beside the bed;holding my hand.
He asked me to pull my blouse over my now protruded stomach then he pulled on a pair of gloves before slathering gel on my abdomen.
He turned the ultrasound machine on and began rubbing the ultrasound transducer over my stomach.
"Okay;so your baby's heart rate is normal."He began "No abnormalities in your baby's organs,uhmmm...no birth defects so far."He stated
"Sounds like mother and child are in good condition."Alice chimed in.
"Yeah,very good condition."My Doctor confirmed as he wiped off the gel.
"So what about the sex of my baby?"I asked curiously
"Congratulations Karen,you have a healthy baby boy growing inside of you."He smiled as he shook my hands
"Oh my God" I cheered "That's my baby Alice...it's a boy" I said with excitement while i pointed at the screen.

"Yes sweetheart,that's your little prince."She said to me smiling.
"Do you want a picture?"Doctor Colin asked me
"Yes...yes..."I replied as i pulled my blouse down and got up from the bed.
"Okay;I'll print it out right away."
Wow!few weeks back i didn't feel like having this baby and now,seeing him on that screen melted every ill feeling i had towards him. I can't wait to hold my little man in my arms.
