Chapter 26

I woke up a little bit late the next morning because I was having difficulties falling asleep last night. I looked over to Future's side of the bed and he wasn't there so I staggered to my bathroom with sleepy eyes as I rubbed them.
I washed my face with warm water, after wiping it dry with a face towel I changed my PJ into comfortable clothes; a blue short and my favorite big black shirt dress.

As I descended down the stairs,I heard my mom talking to my son in the kitchen and I heard clattering of pots and pans."Morning momma"Future greeted as he ran to hug my legs.

I lifted him up and pecked his forehead."Morning mom."I greeted.
Turning to my son,I asked "Hope you slept well?"

"Yes momma" He said blushing.

I put him down and went over to my Mom. "Let me help you with that."

"Don't worry dear,I'm almost done." She said as she focused back on what she was doing "How was your night?" She asked me.

"Great,I slept well. I didn't realise how much I missed my bed until last night." I told her.

"Here" She handed me a jug of milk,"Add it to your dad's oat meal and take it to his study."

"Morning Daddy" I greeted as I placed the tray containing his breakfast on the table and went to peck him.

"Hey dear,how are you?"

"I'm fine Dad,I brought you oat meal and toasted bread."

He adjusted his reading glasses and nodded. "Tell your mother to give you my pills then you get me a glass of warm water, this one is cold."

"Sure Dad." I turned to leave when he called me back.

"Karen?"

"Yes Daddy."

"I need to talk to you about something."

"Okay.Let me quickly get what you asked for, I'll be right back."

"That can wait.Come here,come and sit beside me."

I figured whatever he had to say was really important so I obliged and sat beside him as he instructed.He seemed nervous and I haven't seen him like this before. He rubbed his palm together and let out a sigh."I really don't know how to say this or if now is the best time to tell you this,"He started.

Deciding not to interrupt him,I just nodded for him to go ahead.

"I have a daughter outside" He suddenly blurted out.

My eyes were wide "What?"

"I have a daughter outside," He repeated.

"I know, I heard you... I'm just uhmm...surprised. How?"

He removed his reading glasses and leaned into his chair."I didn't cheat on your Mom if that's what you're thinking,"He began "Her name is Luciana,she was the love of my life from way back in high school and after college I got a job at a local library. I was earning enough to take care of us because I wanted to marry her but her parents never liked me."Having said that, he started coughing.

"Sorry Dad." I brought him a glass of water from the table. After taking two gulps,he handed it back to me and urged me to sit so he could continue.

"I wouldn't like to go into much details because they did terrible things to me and my family just so I would leave Luciana.Their plans seemed to work because I lost all I had in London and was forced to come back here in Kentucky where I met your mother. I didn't know Luciana was pregnant as at the time I left."

"Wait dad,slow down." I interrupted him."Are you trying to say that this Luciana woman hid your daughter from you all these years?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Yes.Although she remarried but she didn't mention me to our daughter until she clocked twenty five recently."

"So this your twenty five year old daughter was the one that reached out to you? How are you sure she's your daughter? You could have insisted on carrying out a DNA test or something at least to....."

"Valerie is my flesh and blood. I don't need a DNA to prove that."

Valerie?

The Valerie that I know happens to be my step sister.I was pissed off with everyone. They all knew and never told me,I'm literally the last person to know about this and now I'm beginning to think that was what my parents were arguing about the previous night.

I trusted my mother so much and I can't believe she would hide something like this from me, she was even telling Dad not to tell me that I seemed happy and all.Even Ian knew and acted like all was fine and as for Valerie, she was the biggest Judas here.
She knew we were sisters and claimed to like me so we could be friends. I'm such a fool for not seeing this coming, how on earth did I think a rich girl like her would be friends with me just like that.

I was raging with anger as I paced around in my room,letting everything I just heard sink in.

Knock,knock.

I turned around and came face to face with my mother and brother. "What do you want?"

"I got this." I heard Ian whisper to my mom before he invited himself into my room and shut the door.

"I've come to talk to you Karen, we're sorry."

"For what exactly huh?"

"For everything. I know you're mad at everyone but you really need to calm down. No one hates you and no one is your enemy here."

"I can't believe this, you of all people... It's unbelievable."

He laughed,he actually laughed at me.

"What was I supposed to do?call you and blab to you? Come off it sis,Dad was the only right person to break the news and mom was just looking out for you." He told me.

"So mom is not mad at all?"

"Of course not,It's not like he cheated on her or something.I know this is a hard pill for you to swallow but you need to calm down."

With that,he left me alone in my room to ponder on what he just said.
