Austin's POV

The night of Lily's rape I didn't sleep. I had nightmares about it and I couldn't imagine what Lily was thinking about. The poor girl was probably terrified to sleep. Her window was shut and the lights were off. Her father came home and hadn't suspected a thing. It was a regular night for him but for Lily, Justin and I, it was a nightmare.

I looked at Lily's window and saw it was still closed, lights off and curtains closed. I sighed. I really needed to talk to her. I looked down the side of my window, seeing a couple bricks out of their place. The last bricked stopped about five feet away from the floor but I could jump that. I climbed down the bricks and once on the last one I jumped the five feet, landing hard on my ankle. A sharp pain went through my whole leg but I ignored it, only caring about sneaking into Lily's window and checking up on her.

Once I made it to Lily's window I climbed up the unstable bricks, worried that I'd fall off. If I stepped on the wrong brick with the wrong foot then I would fall catastrophically. I made it to the window, tapping lightly. There was no movement inside so I tried opening the window. It was unlocked thankfully. I opened it and hoisted myself in. Lily was staring at the ceiling, not moving or blinking. Once inside she didn't even glance at me. I honestly thought she was dead. I watched her chest, seeing it slowly rise up then down. I breathed a sigh of relief. I sat in one of her bean bags, looking at her.

"Lily, can you please talk to me."

Nothing.

"Lily, you can't just wallow in your self pity. You have to talk to me." I stood up, making my way to her. I stayed standing over her body, looking into her face. She finally moved her eyes to look at my face. She studied my features and moved a hand to touch my face. I lowered my head, letting her delicate fingers graze over my eyes, my nose, lips and chin. She ran her fingers through my hair, gently massaging my scalp. My body broke out in goosebumps with her touch. Tears welled up in her eyes.

"Babe, if you're in there, talk to me please." I begged.

She cracked a smile, a broken one. I love you, she mouthed. It wasn't literal words but it was something. And I was happy for it.

"I love you too beautiful." I whispered.

She continued to smile at me then, out of nowhere, she stopped smiling, stopped crying and laid down in bed, staring at the ceiling.

I sighed. She was gone again. I sat in the bean bag and sat there for an eternity. She was watching as light shadows danced over the dark walls.

"I'm gonna go, but I'll be back, I promise. See you at school tomorrow?" No response. "Okay. Goodnight." I began climbing out of her window, placing a careful foot on each brick. I made it to the bottom safely, looking up a final time to her closed window. After shaking my head, I walked back to my window, wondering how I could get back up. I decided on placing an upside down trash bin about three feet tall and climbing it easily. I made it to my open window climbed in and laid in bed, pulling my covers over me.

"How are you Austin?" My mom asked, walking in and sitting on my bed. I smiled. Right on time, I thought to myself.

"I'm fine mom, just tired."

"What happened today?"

"I can't tell you mom, it's not my story to tell." I closed my eyes, turning away from her. I sighed. This was the worst thing ever to happen to that girl.

"Okay honey, if you wanna talk to me then I'll be here." She said, kissing my forehead.

"Goodnight mom."
