Maia, David and Sadie were all packed into David’s car on the way to the beach. It was about 7 o’clock at night and the sun was supposed to set at around 8:30. David wanted to kiss Maia in the water while the sun was setting so they would have to get there and eat their food quickly. David glanced over at Maia. Her head was resting on the glass window of the car and her eyes were shut closed. Sadie was cuddled on Maia’s chest and Maia’s hand was on her body. About ten minutes of driving later, David pulled up to the side of the road beside a private beach he owned. He checked his phone to make sure Jake set up what he asked him too and he did. He shook Maia lightly to wake her up.

“Naps over, babe, we’re here,” He informed her while getting out of the car. Maia slowly woke up and reached for Sadie’s leash and latched it onto her. She opened the car door and placed Sadie on the ground as she started to bark.

“Sadie, no bark,” Maia directed, yawning. She wished she could’ve had a longer nap in the car. She figured that it would be a long night for her tonight. She started to wake up more when she realized this was her first official date with David. David, she thought. Everything about him was perfect, from the way he brushes the hair away from her face to the way he says her name. She was slowly but surely falling for him. She walked to the trunk where David was standing with both their bags. “Oh, I can take that,” Maia said, reaching for her bag.

“I got it, Mai,” he replied as he held both bags with his left hand and took Maia’s hand with his right. He entwined his fingers with hers and squeezed her hand.  They walked down to the beach and Maia saw one of the most beautiful things she’s seen ever.

“Wow,” she commented. There was a small table with food already prepared on the plates and candles surrounding it. There was what looked like a very soft blanket lying on the sand, paired with a few pillows. On the outer edges of the blanket were bright red rose petals. There were lights crawling up the legs of the table and chairs which were turned on. Maia bent over to pick up a rose petal and inhaled the scent. “This is all so perfect,” she said while turning back to David. “You didn’t have to do all this.”

“Of course I did. It was nothing much. I just want to make you happy,” he reflected while putting their bags down. “What are we going to do with Sadie while were in the water and eating? Should we just tie her to the table?”

“No, Sadie doesn’t like being too far away from me so I was just going to let her roam around. She won’t go too far, don’t worry. When we’re in the water she’ll go swimming, too. One time I came here with Jill and all three of us went swimming together,” Maia laughed at the memory. “Be good, Sadie,” Maia said as she undid her leash. She watched as Sadie happily pranced around the sand and chased birds. She sat down in the chair opposite to David and looked at the food. “This looks really, really good. Did you cook it?”

“Yeah, I prepared it yesterday and I told Jake to heat it up before setting all this up for me,” David answered while taking a bite of his food. He reached his hand under the table and laid it on Maia’s thigh. He knew she loved it when he did this.

“Well thank you,” Maia thanked before she dived into the perfectly made spaghetti and meatballs. They ate in silence for a few minutes before Maia spoke again. “Why do you even want to be with me? I mean, there is nothing that special about me.”
