David hung up the phone immediately and rushed to his room. He quickly packed a suitcase of clothes, randomly throwing clothing items in as he had no clue as to how long he would be away. He packed a smaller bag to bring with him on the plane. He remembered to bring the ring, too. He had no idea why, it was just good luck to him. Just as he was nearly done, Cierra poked her head into his room.
“What’s happening?” she asked curiously.
“Maia. I need to go to Australia,” he replied quickly. He grabbed both of his bags and moved to his front door, putting on his shoes.
“I’ll drive you to the airport,” Cierra said. She didn’t want to know any more information; she didn’t need to. She just knew that it must be important for David to drop everything and fly half way across the world. She helped him carry his bags out of his house and she put them in the back of her car. She then got in the front seat and began to drive. “You should call the airport to reserve a seat and see when the next flight is,” she suggested. David took out his phone and called them.
“Hello, yes, I was wondering when the next available flight to Australia is?” David asked into the phone. He was very anxious, and hoped it was soon.
“Two and a half hours from now, we still have a few tickets if you would like to reserve one,” the lady spoke back.
“Yes, can I reserve one of those tickets please? I should be at the airport within the next half hour.” David tapped his fingers against his leg; nervous for what was to come.
“Of course, last name please?”
“Lambert.”
“Adam Lambert?” the lady asked.
“No, David,” he answered. He wasn’t in the mood for this.
“Alright, Mister Lambert. Your ticket is reserved.” David hung up and placed his phone in his lap.
“Alright, I have a ticket reserved. The flight takes off in about two and a half hours. I wish it was earlier, I won’t get there for hours,” he reflected, sad.
“It’ll be alright, David. I don’t know the circumstances but I know that whatever happens will end up better than what you think,” Cierra told him. She was always good at having a bright look on things. David just shrugged as he leaned back in his seat and waited for the drive to be over. About a half hour later, they finally arrived at the airport. David rushed out of the car and grabbed his bags, heading for the airport entrance. He walked in and went up to the ticket booths to collect and pay for his ticket. He didn’t really pay attention to how much it cost; he didn’t care. All he cared about was getting on this damn flight and seeing what happened with Maia. After he got his ticket he ran over to security, knowing he only had a small bit of time before his flight took off. The security line was long. He waited, all of thirty minutes. David was getting more anxious by the second; nervous he would miss his flight. He finally managed to get through security and he walked quickly towards the gate for his flight. He put his bags down and saw he had fifteen minutes left until the plane started boarding, so he decided to go grab a snack. He went to the closest fast food place in the airport and grabbed a burger and a pop. He ate it quickly then threw it out once the plane started boarding. He got onto the plane and looked around at all the different people; imagining what they were going to Australia before. He noticed a few families looking as if they were going on a family vacation, and some men dressed in business suits, most likely going to Australia for business. He didn’t infer any of them were going for the reason he was; to see if Maia was alive or not. After twenty minutes of just sitting on the plane waiting for everyone to board; the plane took off.

David rushed off the plane, pushing past everyone. He was finally in Australia but the hospital seemed so far away. He rushed down to baggage to quickly as his bags weren’t there yet. He sat down on the floor and checked the time. 11:14 am. He slept through most of the flight, but he was still tired. He sent a text to Jill letting her know he landed and would be there as soon as possible. He had no idea why she wasn’t replying. The fact she wasn’t, however, terrified him more than anything.
He noticed his bags came out from baggage and he got them off the conveyer belt and started walking to the front entrance. He quickly looked up the number for the local taxi company and called them. He got onto a taxi and told him the location he needed to go. The taxi driver said it would be a thirty minute drive. Great, he thought. He went on his phone and texted Cierra to thank her for being there for him and driving him to the airport. He also reminded her to get his car from where she picked him up.
Once they arrived at the hospital, David paid the taxi driver and rushed into the hospital. He went up to the same floor Maia was on before and hoped that was still her room. He walked slowly to the room, due to his nervousness, and walked in. She wasn’t there. “No,” he said aloud. She was gone, she was gone. David let a tear fall out of his eye as he sat down on the bed. He couldn’t come to terms with what he thought had happened.
“David? Why are you crying?” Jill said as she walked into the room.
“Maia, she’s…” David started, before Jill cut him off.
“She’s not dead. Not yet, anyways,” she said. She walked over and sat on the bed beside him.
“What?” David asked, wiping his tears.
“The doctors knew she wasn’t likely to come out of her coma, you see. They had this surgery they could attempt to do on Maia. I don’t remember exactly what the surgery was, but you could ask Alex. All I know is it has to do with her brain. The surgery was a really risky choice as the chances of her coming out of her living were slim, and the chances of her both living and coming out of her coma were even slimmer. But we know that Maia would have wanted to try, I mean, we all figured its better than letting her lye in a coma forever. They started the surgery a few hours ago, you can wait with us in the waiting room or you could stay here,” she finished.
David let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. She wasn’t dead – yet, anyways. “I’ll stay here,” he answered. He would much rather stay in the hospital room that at least spelt like her than the waiting room. He felt safer here.
“Alright, we will come get you whenever the doctor comes for us.” Jill walked out of the room; closing the door behind her. David shifted in the bed, resting his head against the wall. He was so scared he was going to lose Maia. He already felt as if he lost her the past month, but it was on his mind that there was still the slightest chance she would wake up. This would answer his everlasting question. He sat in anticipation for an hour. He looked on his phone, and read a little bit of the book that was beside the bed. Before I Fall, was the title, it was Maia’s favorite book. He wasn’t sure why her book was here, as she was in coma. He read it anyways. It reminded him of her.
Half an hour later, Charlie ran into his room and told him to come to the hallway. The doctor was standing in front of Jill and Alex with a straight face. “What happened? Is she alright?” David asked.
“The doctor was about to explain; we wanted to wait until you were here,” Charlie explained.
“So, doctor?” Jill asked impatiently.
“Maia, she…”
