Chapter 11 : Feeding show

The Jurassic World Lagoon was impressive. The biggest tank was for the Tylosauruses. The three smallest were at the West of the big one. Maddy, Gray, Emma and Zara were having a walk at this place which looked like a seaside where people would like to swim. Maddy suddenly smiled. « What's up Maddy ? » Gray asked. « My father would take me to a cove near the Navy bases – the military ports where my father would be based. In summer – I would swim all day long. In winter – me, my Mom, my Dad and my bro would sail on a small wooden boat my parents built themselves. My family and I lived in several Navy bases. This is the price I have to pay for having a military dad. » Maddy answered. « That's why Maddy knows so much about the sea and the Navy. » Zara said.

« There ! An ichtyosaur ! » Gray yelled pointing at fins emerging at the surface before Maddy could answer. There are Archelons and Hesperornises in the second pond. « Wow ! XXXXL turtles ! » Emma exclaimed. « The Hesperornises became extinct at the same time as dinosaurs. » Maddy explained.

However – they wanted to see teeth. « The mosasaur feeding show is in 45 minutes. » Zara said. Her phone ringed and she answered « Mom ? Did you solve the problem with the food supplier for the wedding ? », « OK let's see marine reptiles ». The three children were all baffled by the Elasmosauruses – Archelon turtles and Ichtyosaurs swimming in their respective tank. Maddy and Gray understood why : these animals would not hesitate to eat their own conterpart hence a sturdy glass wall between each tank.

« We don't see much of the Tylosauruses. », « Let's go to the feeding show guys ! To see teeth. ». Zara even had to run to catch them up. « I gotta go. I'm watching my boss's nephew and niece and their new friend. Send me an email. ».

The Tylosaurus feeding show was about to start and the tribune was now crowded. Gray was so impatient that Maddy had to tap his head in order to force him to sit down. Zara prefered to check her emails.

The announcer started commenting. « The Tylosaurus was an animal belonging to the large family of the mosasaurs. They swam in the depth of the ocean to hunt their preys which were turtles, fish, shark and even other mosasaurs. We feed them with cloned sharks – which were their usual prey in the Cretaceous period. You're lucky as it's feed time for the biggest – which is 20 meters long. Open the number 2 tank – please ! ». Then a dead shark hanging on a zip line was being move up above the water tank. « Please be patient. She needs to find her prey. ».

A few minutes later – the largest Tylosaurus jumped out of the water and grabed the dead shark. The animal had a light brown back with a grey underbelly and looked like a giant lizard with fins. However – it ended up falling into the water dragging the shark with it.

The animal falling back into the water was so huge no one got splashed. Emma, Zara, Gray and Maddy ended up completely wet.

« That was awesome ! » Emma gleefully said.

Suddenly – the tribune lowered itself and people were photographying the Tylosaurus eating its meal with their phones and cameras. The three children were overjoyed. They finally enjoyed the real pleasures of Jurassic World !
