Chapter 36 : The island of the lost

As Owen – Claire – Maisie and their two-sailor escort drove in the valley – Rollins then saw something. « Over here ! There's something ! » she said. Then Owen parked in front of the object which was actually the gyrosphere. « Let's see what there is. » Maisie said. Owen took his rifle before inspecting the gyrosphere with Maisie as Rollins and Hill provided security.

Then Claire found Emma's now broken mobile phone.

At the same time – Owen and Maisie started to investigate. « The gyrosphere was stuck into these two roots. There are human footprints starting from here. They were obviously running. », « There are some here. Belonging to dinosaurs. », « Maisie's right. The three children were chased by the four torvosauruses. », « Emma. Gray. Maddy. No. Not them. », « We should follow the tracks. Even if we are escort – we know how to proceed. That's what we would have done. ».

The five of them then climbed up the hill before crouching in order to hide behind bushes. What they saw was a natural scene that frequently happened in the Jurassic.

The four torvosauruses first isolated the youngest individual of the apatosaurus herd before repeatedly clawing and biting it. The wounded apatosaurus then painfully growled as the others could only watch helplessly as they were never hunted before. Then the pack ran away from the gruesome scene as fast as they could. The biggest torvosaurus then tore the neck of the injured apatosaurus. Claire began to burst into tears. « Poor girl. », « We can't do anything for her. These two could shoot them but not that far. Their guns have a maximum range of 500 yards. But these animals are at least 600 yards. », « Yeah. At least we now know that theropods are pack hunters. », « Look on the bright side. These dinos are gonna be busy for the afternoon. ». The group then discreetly walked back to the lake. Claire then talked.

« It's unfortunate. », « No it ain't. There's nothing evil in eating eggs or pork chops or a piece of beef steak. », « I meant that we fed them with animal meals to reduce their fear factor. », « The intention was good but you can't suppress 65 million years of blood taste. », « Don't tell us you ain't read Grant's novel ! », « He means that you made these dinosaurs crazy. This disease made them crazy and dangerous. The herd is infected as we speak. The island is quarantined and the following events won't go better. And the camouflage is great ; we can hardly kill them now. », « Mr. Grady and the kid are right. We're gonna talk about mr. Masrani and the wow factor after arresting him ! ». Claire then realized the 9/11 she made. She now realized that her and her colleages completely forgot ethics because of being too focused on doing their job. Claire then ordered the control room to send in the ACU troopers to secure the workers who would be repairing the broken gates.

They then decided to look for Claire's nephews and Maddy. Owen and Maisie convinced Claire and their escort the two of them already tracked animals and tracking two little men wasn't hard. « Hey guys. We should go silently. », « Why ? », « Hill's right Claire. It's like a stroll in the woods 65 million years ago. ».

Meanwhile – Emma and Gray as well as Maddy were now in front of a huge concrete wall with a tree nearby. Another wall was forming a 90-degree corner with the first wall.

« Did we find the park ? », « I dunno. ». The place looked deserted. The two walls were now covered with leaves and other plants. Maddy then spotted something looking like a part of a sewer. Then Emma and Gray spotted a torn up and rusted car at the base of the tree. The group understood all this was linked to the 1993 Jurassic Park Incident. Maddy saw old rusted and broken steel fences at the top of the wall. Then Emma saw the door of the car was open and identified it as a 1993 Ford Explorer as she was fascinated by cars.

She had plenty of car models in her bedroom. The three children then climbed up a wall leading to a hill which led to the old electric fences. Once they made it they arrived at an old earth path and stumbled on another Ford Explorer which was also rusted. Emma was inspecting the wreckage as Gray and Maddy were inspecting the surrounding. They saw what appeared to be a palmleaf cabin and a stone board. After summarily cleaning it – they read 'T-Rex' but also some human remains near the cabin. They ran towards Emma who hardly opened the car trunk and found a map. « Here we are guys ! We now can find our way to the park ! », « I'm not feeling too well. », « Don't worry. We'll bring you to a doctor once on the main land. ». And so they headed out.
