Chapter Seven - Surprise! Have Another Kid
"So, you're Abby?"
~
Why, oh why, did she always get lost? It's been about a week since she wandered out of the police station and into a city she knew almost nothing about. She could have gone to the police station, but she couldn't find it. How? She wasn't sure. Directions weren't her expertise.
A loud explosion shook the ground a few blocks away, and Abby had a feeling she knew what it was. Could it already be the sludge incident? She went to investigate, hope blossoming in her chest. There'd be police officers there! They could take her back to the station!
Just as she stepped toward the street, a honk startled her enough to make her fall back onto the sidewalk. "Maybe I should make sure to watch where I'm going..."
~
As she got closer to the shopping district, she passed by a convenience store just as the door was opening. Then a body slammed into hers and they both went tumbling to the ground.
"I'm sorr-"
Before she could finish, she looked into their eyes and felt her voice die out. 'Huh?'
They grinned and waved before turning away and running down the sidewalk, laughing like a maniac. "Have fun without your voice!"
She could only stare as she sat on her hands and knees, watching as he got farther and farther away. Her mind remained blank for a few moments before processing what happened. Even then, it was tough to wrap her head around the situation.
'Oh no! How am I supposed to talk to the police now!?' She thought in horror, feeling all hope leave her.
She tried to speak, and tried to speak, and tried to make a noise. But nothing. No sound came out.
She wanted to cry. Why did something like this have to happen?
"Miss, are you alright?"Asked a voice to her left. She'd been so busy moping, she didn't notice the police cars pull up.
Turning her attention to the voice, she noticed a police officer behind her. Her face must've said it all as he knelt down while his face morphed into one of concern. "Ma'am?" He asked.
Another officer came out of the store with a sigh, scratching their head. Then he noticed them and began walking over. "Hey, she won't be able to talk. A lot of the people inside can't talk either, my guess is the suspect's quirk is at play here."
She gave a nod of confirmation, mentally agreeing and sighed silently. Not being able to talk is gonna be hard. She wasn't great at communication as it is. Grimacing at the thought, she stood with the help of one of the officers and got into a line with the other people. Despite the situation, they still needed to get their witness reports.
Then Tsukauchi emerged from a new police car. He spoke to the officers at the scene before noticing her. He glanced over her before looking away, then snapping his head back to look at her with wide eyes. It seemed he didn't expect to see her there, or was unbelieving it was her.
She kind of wished she had her phone so she could take a picture of his face, the look he was giving her was priceless.
"You're here?" He asked as he walked closer. Another officer gave him a confused look, maybe wondering what he was talking about.
As she was about to speak, she remembered she couldn't and deflated. Her shoulders slumped as she mentally cried. Communication was going to be really hard, she could already see it.
As he was filled in, a more understanding look came across his face. He turned to look back at her with a small smile. "I see, so his quirk must be doing this then. Let's get you to the station and get you cleaned up." He turned to another officer and asked, "Have we been able to locate the suspect?"
The person he turned to sighed and looked over their notes, then shook their head. "Unfortunately no, but we have a few leads on where they might be. We're gathering statements right now, so hopefully we can get a description." The officer replied.
As they continued to converse, Abby's attention shifted to behind the police cars. There she watched as a young man with curly green hair walked around the corner and out of sight. 'It's Midoriya!'
Her attention shifted back to the two beside her as Tsukauchi placed a hand on her shoulder. "I'll take this one back to the station, we've been trying to find her for a few days now."
"Oh, she's the missing person? Hard to tell since she looks different from the picture," They replied, giving her a look over.
Oh yeah, she did look a bit like a hobo didn't she? A week on the street will do that she guessed. Though, she did meet a kind old lady earlier in the week that offered her some food and a shower. So, on the bright side, she didn't stink too bad. (She ended up mowing the yard after, but she didn't argue.)
She didn't realise he'd led her toward his car until he opened the door for her. Spacing out was a habit.
"We'll get you cleaned up at the sation, and a change of fresh clothes."
Only giving him a grateful look, she got into the car and buckled up.
~
After showering and changing into the clothes they provided, she felt a lot better. Her old clothes were put into a plastic bag and given back to her. Maybe she could wash them sometime.
She still felt a bit grungy, but it was probably just the clothes. The navy blue sweatpants were a few sizes too big, and the grey sweater was also a size or two too big. But at least they were clean. And comfy.
"Abby? We're taking you to your new guardian's house. You'll stay with him until we can figure something else out."
She opened her mouth before closing it and instead gave a nod. This was going to be interesting.
~
They walked up to an apartment building and up a few flights of stairs before stopping at a door. The officer knocked as Abby peeked around him to get a better look. She wasn't told who it was she'd be staying with, and she wasn't sure she was going to like it. 'I wonder how Kayla's doing, I'm worried. I hope I'm not here alone.'
The door opened and a tired looking man appeared. His black hair was tied into a messy ponytail as he scowled. "What?"
"Mr. Aizawa sir, we-"
His eyes shifted to Abby and they narrowed as he pointed at her, "You."
Becoming nervous at his change in attitude, she felt her lips twitch into an awkward smile. Or maybe it was a grimace, she couldn't tell.
The officer looked between them before smiling a little lopsided. "Well, she'll be staying with you until further notice, so I hope you two get along. Also, she can't speak because of a villain's quirk. We'll contact you if we find out more information."
He took his leave after handing Abby an envelope.
The next thing Abby knew, she was standing in the middle of Aizawa's living room. Her nerves were on edge when she saw the mess. She turned around after the door closed, feeling small as he stared her down.
"So, you're Abby?"
__
Heya y'all, how is everyone? Sorry this took a while to get out, I didn't know what to write for a few days, and when I reread the previous attempts I deleted them. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Hopefully I can get another one out soon!
