Chapter Six - Living with a Hobo
"Wait! You've gotta be joking!"
~
It wasn't until the next day the police heard anything about Abby.
"Have y'all found her or?" Kayla asked, leaning back in her chair as she crossed her arms. When no one answered, she tilted her head and frowned, turning to face Tsukauchi. "Hey, what's going on?"
With a sigh, Tsukauchi ran a hand through his hair and sent her a small smile. "A pro hero found her last night, but she got away before he could question her." He took a seat in the chair across from her.
Still frowning, Kayla let her head fall back as she groaned. "How does she even manage to get away from a pro hero?"
He didn't answer but asked the same question to himself. After a short silence, he changed the subject. "We've been talking about your living arrangements, and decided it wouldn't be good for you to stay in a police station." He shuffled through some papers before giving her a small smile. "The principle of the U.A. suggested that you live with a pro hero until we figure out how to contact your family."
Live with a pro hero? Kayla furrowed her brows and frowned. "Uh, yeah. How about no."
"I'm sorry?"
"Why do I need..." Then realization dawned on her. She had no one to live with while she was in Japan. At least no one she knew. "I guess I've got no choice then," she ran a hand through her hair before pulling it out once it got stuck in a tangle.
"We've had a brief discussion over the phone, and decided the best person for the job was one of the teachers. Since he's not busy currently, he should be able to take you in." He stood and gestured for her to do the same. "He should be here soon, so why don't you come and wait in the lobby?"
She didn't argue as she stood. Huffing as she pushed her chair in, she followed Tsukauchi to the lobby. As she walked through the police station, she couldn't help but wonder who would be taking care of her. It was only the natural thing to do, wasn't it?
Who would want a stranger to take care of them?

"Kayla, wake up. He's here to pick you up."
Kayla groaned and pushed a hand into her face. "Five more minutes." Her response was greeted with a few laughs, one of them a little too loud for her liking. As she sat up and groaned, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes or at least tried to. Maybe taking a nap wasn't the best idea, she thought.
"So you're Kayla?" A voice asked. It sounded familiar, but she couldn't figure out why.
Wait, where was she again? When she peeked her eyes open to see where she was, the events from earlier clicked in her head. "Fuck me sideways." She murmured, rubbing her face with her hands.
"What was that?"
"Nothing." She sighed, taking her hands off her face. Her attention shifted between two familiar faces. Ah, right.
"Are you ready, I don't want to waste any more time." The black-haired male said, trying very little to hide his annoyance.
Frowning at him, she was about to speak up before she realized. "Wait, what? You're the one taking care of me?" She didn't mean to sound the way she did, but she couldn't hide the slight horror and surprise of the newfound information.
"Yes, now let's get going." He was more annoyed now but retained a flat expression. Though, she could still see the annoyance in his eyes.
"Wait! You've gotta be joking!"

-- A/N: Heya everyone, sorry this took so long to write. I kept writing this chapter, then deleting it because I didn't like it. Then I didn't know how to write it, so I took a break. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed, sorry if it's a little short. I'm planning, and hoping, to get this story chugging along, so I'll see you all in the next chapter!
