Chapter Eighteen - The Storm Strikes

"I won't." Abby murmurs, voice weak and just as raspy. Her muscles burn, but... "I won't let you die."

~

The nerves twisting in her stomach felt like there were worms wriggling around her organs. She's felt nauseous since this morning.

Maybe it's because I didn't eat breakfast, she thought as she squeezed her eyes shut and tried not to curl in on herself. She'd been trying to breath deep through her nose, but her mind was preoccupied with something else. A voice in the back of her mind kept repeating, "Something's going to happen today," like a mantra. She'd been so lost in her head, she didn't realize they arrived.

Kayla eyed her pale friend with a glint of worry behind her eyes. Thirteen began speaking, but the words seemed far away and whispered past her ears like the breeze. None made it past the raging thoughts in her mind. There was a nudge on her arm then, light and quick.

"Hey, are you excited? I can't wait to get started!" Mina whispered all while grinning. Her eyes were alight with a playful glimmer, easing Kayla's nerves as she grinned back.

The knot that had formed in her stomach pulled loose as she nodded. "Hell yeah, we'll have so much fun!" She whispered back, just as enthusiastic.

Thirteen's speech had just come to a close when Abby felt her heart leap into her throat. She tries to open her mouth and say something, anything - try to give some semblance of a warning - but there's nothing. Of course there's nothing.

The purple portal that appeared began to grow larger, and a sea of villains spilled from depths of purple. They flooded the plaza below as Aizawa told everyone to get back. Kirishima seemed confused as he asked if this was part of the exercise, wondering if it was anything like the entrance exams.

It wasn't. Soon, Aizawa was telling Thirteen to take care of the students as he jumped into the fray, ignoring Midoriya's statement of how it was too much for one hero.

A cold feeling washed over her as she watched their teacher go. The helpless feeling of not being able to do anything sunk its cold hooks into her bones as her vision tunneled. Scenes played behind her eyes, the fall of their teacher to that beast. Someone grabbed her arm, but her mind was too far away to process anything they said. Their words were lost to the wind.

Everyone moved to the entrance, but a cloud of mist blocked their path. Toxic yellow eyes swept over them, searching for something in particular. Judging from the way the eyes narrowed, they didn't find whatever it was they were searching for.

The air turned heavy as everyone realized just how dangerous the situation unfolding was. As the mist converged, a voice cut through the tense silence.

"Greetings," it said, "We are the League of Villains." He says, as if introductions were a must. "Forgive our audacity, but..." his eyes sweep over them again, and Abby feels her knees begin to buckle. "Today, we've come here to U.A. High-school -- this bastion of heroism, to end the life of All Might, the Symbol of Peace."

Unease swept through the crowd of students, who each shared look at the new information.

Kill All Might? How could anyone kill All Might, the number one hero?
