Chapter 9

Toothless P.O.V

"Toothless"

"Toothless?"

"Toothless!"

I woke up with a startling jump, my eyes shot open and I was laying on my side in a damp cage with the Lightfury, my head was aching badly and my legs were shaking.
"Where...where?" I mumbled, groaning from the pain and slowly lifting myself up, my legs shaking violently,
"Oh thank god you're awake! You've been out all day!" She whimpered, nuzzling under my chin. I purred shakily and nuzzled the top of her head, then she moved it and looked out through the gaps in the bars, "It's so dead here..."
"Yeah no kidding..." I said, standing besides her and seeing more cages along side of us and in front of us, there were Deadly Nadders, Zipplebacks, Monstrous Nightmares, Death Grippers and Hobblegrunts. They were all injured, most of them having scars plastered on their faces, blind eyes and limps. The Lightfury whimpered, ears folding back while she saw them suffering,
"Hey..." I said softly, looking at her, she looked up at me with big horrific eyes, "I'm not going to let them hurt you...I promise..."
"I promise I'll try my best to protect you..." she whispered up to me, nodding at me then pressing her head against mine, I purred and nuzzled it, then walked to the back of the cage and laid down, my eyes alerting all around us. She crawled over and laid besides me, resting her chin on my paws and purring gently, I watched her for a few minutes until she fell asleep then my eyes wandered around the room,
"You're lass is she?" Someone said from one of the cages, my ears perked as I looked towards a Deadly Nader cage, he was sitting there with two blind eyes and scars all down his face and his chest,
"What? No" I mumbled and looked to the side then back at him,
"Mh, sure...what's a lad like you doin' here en?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at me then perching himself more comfortably against his cage, I didn't know how he could see me but he was looking directly at him, the mist in his eyes glared straight into mine,
"I don't know...I-I just woke up here..." I replied, I couldn't remember anything apart from my weird dream I had while I was passed out. I heard him grunting and shuffling, then a little squeak, from behind him there was a baby Nadder,
"I've been hiding her here, I can't let them take my bundle of joy" he said, nuzzling her forward, she squeaked at me, fluttering her wings excitedly, "her scales blend with her surroundings, so when I have to go into battle she cuddled in the corner and disguises, they don't know she's here"
That got me an idea,
"She can camouflage too...." I said and looked down to the Lightfury sleeping quietly still. "Maybe I can protect her then? If she camouflages to look like she's escaped?"
"Sure, they'll believe that, they're thick in the head as it is, but ya gotta make it look like she's escaped, maybe a few scratches and tugs at the bars?"
"Yeah...yeah I'll do that"
