Everyone was constantly staring at me, whispering to each other as they gawked at me. Holly stayed with me the entire day, leading me around camp and introducing me to all the "lost boys and girls" as she called them. She told me I was in a place called Neverland. She seemed a little puzzled when I had told that I had never heard of such a place. Peter Pan had not been around since he walked away from me in the forest, Holly said he needed time to process what had happened. She tried to fill me in on everything that had happened during my time on Neverland, from my arrival all the way to Peter Pan pulling me from the water.
"Peter, you called him Peter." She said again to me for what seemed like the hundredth time when a handsome boy with blonde hair approached Holly and wrapped his arm around her waist.
"Emerald, this is Felix." He smiled at me and held out his hand, I shook it and gave him a small smile. The two turned to each other and I faced myself away from them and bumped into a tall figure. My eyes looked up to see a familiar face, I quickly backed away and mumbled an apology.
"Don't be sorry. Would you accompany me on a walk?" Peter held out his arm and I looked at Holly, she gave me a small nod so I looped my arm through Peter's. He was silent as we moved through the trees and he moved at a leisurely pace that my legs could easily keep up with. We reached the beach and the moonlight reflected off the water and provided all the light we needed.
"Things are going to happen here." He looked at me calmly and I stared ahead, confused by his words.
"People are going to try to kill me." My eyes met his and he gave me a reassuring smile.
"But don't worry, love. I'm not easily killed." He gave me a smile that made my heart race.
"I wasn't worried." The words slipped from my mouth before I thought about how it could affect him. I looked at him from the corner of my eye, his smile had disappeared.
"I mean, I was... am worried-"
"It's alright, I don't blame you. I simply don't understand how you could forget everything." He looked straight ahead as I examined his face. He had a prominent jaw line and his eyes were mesmerizing. He was the most handsome thing my eyes had ever seen.
"I haven't forgotten everything. I can walk and talk. I remember that sugar is sweet and-" A pulling sensation filled my head and a pop feeling caused me to stop walking. Peter stopped beside me and walked to stand in front of me.
"And Charlie, I remember Charlie." I said happily and looked up at Peter to find his eyes had gone dark and he look extremely angered.
"What?" He said in a low voice.
"My friend Charlie, I remember him!" Memories suddenly started popping up to the surface.
"Charlie?"
"Yeah, Charlie. Last year for Halloween we dressed up as Batman and Robin. And St. Patrick's day he took me to a forest to go Leprachaun hunting just because he knew it was always something I wanted to do." I smiled at the ground, thinking of all the good memories I had with Charlie. I looked back up to Peter, his body stood completely still and his eyes were filled with rage.
"Are you ok?" I stepped closer to him and put my hand and his arm. He looked down at my hand touching his arm and took a step back.
"Yes. I'm perfectly fine."
"You don't seem fine." I slowly moved closer to him but he continued to move away from me. His eyes were glassy as he stormed down the beach. I called to him and he turned around and looked back at me with a furious look in his eyes.
"How is it that you remember him, and not me? Enlighten me, please! How could you just forget everything?" He hollered and I stood frozen in my place, unsure of what to do. Tears fell from his beautiful eyes, but all I could do was feel fear of the gorgeous man before me.
"How could you forget me, Em? I thought that-" He stared into my fearful eyes and once again distanced himself from me. I watched him disappear from my sight. My heart was aching, and I didn't know why.
"I'm sorry." I whispered to nobody but myself and the waves.
I went to the only place on Neverland that I could be alone without people asking if I remembered this or that. My small cliff had the best view of the sunset and was far from all the people. I wished they would understand that I don't remember anything, their memories mean nothing to me. The girl they speak of, she isn't me, not anymore at least.
I could hear footsteps approaching from behind me and I groaned unhappily, someone had found my spot. I didn't care enough to look who wanted to ask me more questions or maybe even try some weirdo memory recovery therapy.
"Hey, remember me?"
"Ugh, you must live under a rock, don't you know that I can't remember anything?" I glared over my shoulder and my heart stopped beating. My jaw dropped at the boy giving me a cocky grin.
"I thought you might." He smiled and I rushed to my feet.
"Charlie!" I screamed as I wrapped my arms around him.
"I promised you I was coming, and here I am." His dark brown eyes held so much happiness and it felt so good to be in his arms once again.
