The young lady opened slowly the door and walked quietly inside the room. She closed the door behind and approached the huge glass wall, standing next to the tall man.
«Did you start the experiment already? I am sorry I am late.» said the young lady apologetically.
«It's alright, we are doing fine.» said Mingyu and smiled. He leaned closer to the glass and looked down at his colleagues.
They were in the other side, a huge and deep room, Mingyu and the others could spectate them from that big window-like glass, a lot of meters above them.
His whole team was down there, some of them were into capsules and the others were handling the machines. They were all wearing masks and special uniforms. The air pressure was altered there and breathing without the masks would be impossible.
«Reduce the air in capsule 4.» said Mingyu to the mic and his voice echoed in the big room, although each participant was wearing earphones.
«Understood.» said the man and grabbed some handles, the others wrote something down.
«How are you feeling Junhui? Can you talk?» said Mingyu and turned to the machines next to him.
They were connected with similar devices from the other room, he could see their heart rate, breathing frequency and blood pressure. Junhui's were pretty low, all of them.
«I'm feeling sick and my head hurts.» responded Junhui and Mingyu nodded, everyone wrote something down and continued their work.
For the moment they wanted to see how the human body would react and if it would be able to handle the coditions they thought existed, probably, while in a time-lapse. It was a simple procedure but every detail was needed, they would study on them and do their conclusions.
«Jeonghan, increase Joshua's blood pressure and decrease the oxygen.» said Mingyu and looked closer at the capsules.
If anything was to go wrong, the capsules would open automatically, the room would be filled with oxygen and the air pressure would go back to normal.
Jeonghan typed something quickly on his keyboard and then spinned the pump. He clicked on the knob and looked back at his screen.
Mingyu looked at Joshua's pulse rate and stared at it for a few seconds.«Jeonghan, what do you see?» he said and his colleague looked at his screen confused. «His pulse is decreasing, that's not what I asked.» he said and kept staring at the machine, hoping for the numbers to change.
«Ι know but my computer shows otherwise.» said Jeonghan and his hands started trembling.
He did what Mingyu had asked but it seemed like there was a technical problem occurring between the devices.«Joshua, how are you feeling?» said Mingyu, his eyes wouldn't move from the numbers.
No response, everybody was silent.
«Joshua do you hear me?» repeated Mingyu but this time he turned to the glass. He looked down and Jeonghan had gotten up from his seat, acting on his own.
«Jeonghan stay in your place!» yelled Mingyu but the man didn't listen to him. He headed to Joshua's capsule, there was a small square from which he could see through it.
«Um, is this supposed to be flashing like this?» said Seokmin from the other side of the room. He pointed towards the big machine that was connected to all of the capsules, in the center of the room. There was a red warning light flashing faster and faster with every second that passed.
«Wait what?« Mingyu turned his gaze on it and his eyes widened.
It meant that it was getting overheated.«Joshua!» yelled Jeonghan as he reached the capsule, he hit the glass with his fist trying to earn the man's attention.
He froze and lowered his eyebrows, he looked closely inside the capsule confused.
«End of the experiment, evacuate NOW.» said Mingyu and punched the big emergency button in front of him.
Nobody hesitated neither got confused. They left their stuff and got up, they would reach for the exit.
A loud sound echoed inside the room and the machine exploded.
A big fire filled the room, everybody was trying to run away. There was no room left for them neither time to do so, their bodies caught fire and all that was left for them was to scream.Scream as the heat was melting their plastic uniforms, making it stick to the skin that was melting along with it.
Mingyu punched the glass with force but he couldn't say something.
He froze, he was shocked.
Nothing was supposed to go wrong, it was a safe experiment. Now not only he lost his team but his boss would be extremely disappointed in him, he had never failed.
But nobody could blame him, could they?
He couldn't predict a malfunction like this when he was sure he had checked everything. CERN was known as one of the most safest places, this would damage their reputation, especially when there were victims.
