Chapter 18

«So you are being chased?» said Linda and looked at Mingyu, she was worrying about what he had just told her.
Why would Ursula look for him?

«Exactly. I am leaving and you are coming with me.» he said and took his phone once again, he tried to call Minghao.

«Why are you dragging me into this? I mean, I didn't do anything, did I?» she said and look at him with pleading eyes.

She felt that she was getting involved in something she shouldn't. Minghao didn't mention anything about her, at least that's what Mingyu told her.

«You can't stay here, I must not leave you behind.» he said and took his gaze off her, he was nervous and couldn't contact Minghao.

«But why?» asked the girl and walked closer to him.

He shoved his phone back into his pocket and sighed.

«Because they will kill you.» he said bluntly and pressed one of the knobs, the elevator stopped.

Linda thought she didn't hear correctly. Kill her? For what purpose? For whatever reason they were after Mingyu, she didn't have to do with any of that.
What if the project was the problem from the very beginning? She had signed up for something dangerous.

«Why would they kill me-» her trembling voice fitting perfectly to her shocked state.

«There is no time to explain! I can't let you die again!» shouted Mingyu, his hands shaking from the fear, he was intense.

«Again?-» the girl looked at him confused.

«Follow me.» he said and grabbed her hand, the door opened and they dashed outside the elevator.

The hallway was empty, in fact it was more narrow than the others.
Mingyu was running in a fast pace, it seemed like he knew where he was heading to.

They passed next the stairway, Mingyu slowed down and stood for a little.

Fast steps were echoing from above, people were coming for them. He started running again, Linda was anxious about the situation.

There was a door in the distance, Mingyu fell on it with force, they got inside. There was a broom behind it, he grabbed it and placed it on the handle, managing to somehow block it. He didn't wait to see if they were coming to his way, he had no time to waste.

«Listen, Linda. We are going to the garages, it's our only option at the moment. We can escape from there.» he said and kept running.

«But that's even lower.» she spoke and wondered, she had never been there so she had no idea.

«Our way to the surface is only a runway, it's easier.»

He opened another door and they found themselves in another hallway. This time it looked different, they were surrounded by bricks and cement. It seemed like a hidden -or better not known by many- passage.

«Faster, they might reach us.» said Mingyu and started running fast, faster than the beginning.

The passage was getting narrow at some points, then wide again. Linda kept following him, what other choice did she have? There was no way she could get out of there on her own, because unfortunately, the hallway was dividing a couple of times.

The man took out his phone and tried to call Minghao again. There was no response in the first two attempts, he answered on the third.

«Are you okay?» yelled Minghao through the speaker, two gunshots followed.

«I am, where are you?!» yelled Mingyu back, he was glad and relieved he had picked it up, nervous at the same time because he knew he was in danger.

«Hurry up and leave!» yelled Minghao one last time and hang up.

Mingyu looked at his phone angrily and held it tightly into his palm. He couldn't do anything for him, it was him and Linda now.

«Is he alright?» she asked, she was breathing very fast.

«He will be.» said Mingyu hoping that he would survive.

He was a well trained assassin, it would be easy. But it would be difficult if he came across a lot of people.

5 minutes of running and they reached another door, it was leading to the main hallways. He opened it slowly and checked if there was anyone around. For their convenience, there wasn't. They sneaked out of there and ran towards another direction.

«It's late, aren't you done?» said Eric and stretched both of his arms, it was a bit of chilly, he was tired.

«Give me a few minutes.» said Angela and the man smiled at her, it's not like he could do anything else.

They looked at each other surprised when the door opened all of the sudden, Mingyu and Linda rushing towards them puffed.

«Kim... And Evans?» wondered the woman as she looked at both of them.

Linda placed her hands on her knees as she gasped for a bit of air, Mingyu's stamina seemed like it was on another level than hers.

«Angela! Let me use one of these!»

Yelled Mingyu and pointed towards some parked motorcycles, there where the runway was starting.

«What? Why would I?» she asked and looked at him confused, something weird was going on. «Do you have permission?» she asked and got up, walking towards him.

Eric was watching carefully.

«It's an emergency, I can't explain it to you now!» yelled Mingyu, he started getting mad.

All he needed was the keys and to open the gate so he could leave. He clenched his fists and shot her an angry look, she was delaying him.

«Calm down, you can't just simply-» she started in a calm tone but the man walked up to her with a menacing look and pace.

«Just help me damn it!» he yelled again and stretched his arms towards her, the woman stopped as she felt threatened by his huge figure.

Linda felt like he wasn't behaving the proper way, if he kept on like this he would never get what he wanted. The situation could get out of hand.

«Step back!» yelled Eric and pointed his gun towards Mingyu.

Angela ran behind him, her bodyguard would protect her.

«Are you serious now? Oh come on!» yelled Mingyu enraged, there was no chance of him getting away now.

«You are behaving too dangerously, do you have a gun on you?» said Eric without taking his eyes off him.

Linda looked at him frightened. One wrong move and Mingyu could die.

Bodyguards were trained well and their job was to protect a specific person, he wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger.

«I just need to leave!» yelled Mingyu and slightly raised his arms, he had no other choice. «Please understand, my time is running out.» he continued in a more calm and pleading tone.

The sudden gunshot echoed inside the huge area.

Blood got squirt on Angela's cheek.

Linda was startled by the bang, she looked at Eric shocked.

His head tilted to the left revealing a part of his broken skull and brain, his body collapsed on the ground.

Blood was gushing out of his head, everybody looked away in disgust.

They turned to the door, his executor standing there with the gun pointed towards Angela.
