Chapter 3

«Unacceptable!»

The middle-aged woman yelled and slammed her hands on the desk in front of her. Mingyu kept looking at the floor, that's what he was doing from the moment he stepped inside his boss' office.

Ursula Bassler, the current president of the ward Mingyu was working. She was responsible for the experiments there and the scientists. She was always a calm person, everybody trusted her. She was covering their mistakes and was lying to the outer world, like everyone in this place was doing.

«I will take full responsibility, I should had taken stricter measures and waited longer for the experiment. I am sorry.» Mingyu repeated his words without lifting his head.

«It's not your fault Kim!» the womam yelled and calmed herself right after.
«Let them finish the investigation and we will find out what was the reason behind the malfunction, I can scold you then Mingyu. You know what is bothering me at the moment.» she continued and sighed, she sat back on her seat. «The man that was found burnt earlier this month caused a huge chaos all around the world, it's the first time CERN gets involved in situations like these. We don't even know how the victim got there, who he is and there is no trace of the murderer. People out there are doing stupid theories and have been accusing us for mad crimes. Now this, 11 of your team got killed, may they rest in peace. Thanks to them we will be able to take even a small step further.» she paused, Mingyu nodded silently and she continued.
«Next month Linda Evans will arrive here! Do you know what this means? They will probably think it ain't a safe place. She has already accepted but we don't want her to doubt her safety. We need to make sure this won't get found out by outsiders.. Take a break and you can continue whenever you are feeling better. Let's wait for the results.»

Mingyu got up, excused himself and left the office.

He leaned on the wall and took a deep breath. He did not know how to feel, he was disappointed in himself and felt sorry for the lives of his colleagues.

What was his mistake? What if he were to fail again in the future?

He entered his office and let his body fall on his chair. He sighed and sat properly, he looked at the piles of files in front of him and grabbed one of them immediately. He opened them and started writing something on his notebook. It was everything he could gather from his experiment, the only informations he could work with.

His team had just died, his experiment had failed. So what? Instead of destroying his mood he was glad for anything he had on his hands right now. He would work hard in order to achieve better in the future.
He was a huge fan and was admiring Linda Evans, he mustn't let her down, especially now that he had met her.

This project was very important to everyone, he had to make it possible.

The tall woman approached Linda and stood next to her. Linda didn't take her gaze off the newspaper.

«News spread incredibly fast, right?» said the young woman and sighed.

«It's very danger-» her manager tried to talk but Linda eyed her suddenly.

«I have already signed the contract, I can not do otherwise Mina.» she said and got up, she walked closer to the balcony.

The woman nodded, she could understand. This was a huge chance in Linda's career and there was no turning back now.

«Enjoy your last days with your family, we are leaving next week.» said Mina and walked inside.

«I know, that's why I came here.» whispered Linda and leaned on her crossed arms, she started thinking a lot of things about her future.

Would she be able to build a time machine? Those things existed only in movies, she always found it a stupid idea yet she couldn't deny the offer.
If she won't make it, she won't get blamed anyways.

«Linda! Your sister and the kids are here!» her mother's voice brought the girl back to the real world, she smiled and returned in the house.

«Please sit!» said her mother to her other manager and the second took her gaze off the pictures that were hanging on the walls.

«I'm sorry, I was just looking around.» her manager spoke up and laughed nervously.

The pictures were full of Linda and her two sisters as kids, they were pretty funny and the girls were adorable.

«Hyuna, where is Mina?» said Linda and the woman shrugged.

«That tall lady you mean?» said the little boy and hugged her leg.

«She is in the bathroom.» said the boy's little sister and hugged her aunt too. Linda patted their heads and smiled at her twin sister that was entering the room.

Linda gave a side look to the pictures and headed to the table with everyone else.
Her parents, sister, nephew and niece and lastly her two trusted managers were sitting with her all together.
She knew that it would take a long time till she could repeat something like this, she would be gone for a long time, that's for sure.

Family always came first. Even if it was about her job, life or interests, she would give up on it just to be close to her family when they needed her.

She loved her hometown and family more than anything, her parents were surprised when she left the house and went to the USA for her studies. She would travel all around the world but she was always returning back to her house.

CERN seemed dangerous lately but she had sworn to herself that nothing bad would happen to her, she would see them again.
