Linda gained her consciousness, she was laying on the side, her eyelids felt heavy for a moment.
She opened her eyes slowly, her vision blurred. The door of the room was opened, Mingyu and the young man who were sitting in the dark living room were visible from her position. She could hear them whispering , their voices were low.
"M-Mingyu.." she whispered and tried to reach him with her hand, neither of them heard anything.
Her hand then moved on her neck, there was something tied up around it. Mingyu seemed like he had the same thing around his neck. Her nape felt numb, she remembered then what had happened.
How much time did pass since then?
She soon regained fully her senses, she tried to get up. The young woman looked around her, it felt like it was an operation room.
Lancets, scissors, bandages, gloves, cotton balls and.. A gun.
She moved slowly and silently, she stretched her arm, reaching for the gun. Her breathing stable, her head and thoughts cool.
How much more could she trust him?
She had absolutely no idea of why CERN would want him dead, why she was involved into the escape plan, but mostly, why was that man standing right in front of her, that was supposed to be dead.
"Explain to me now!" she yelled and both of the men turned at her startled.
"Speak now, otherwise I don't know what I am capable of doing to you." she said, pointing her gun towards the young man."Linda calm down, I said I will explain everything." said Mingyu and walked to her, both of the men had their hands on the air. "I understand that you are confused, he is with us." he said but Linda kept staring at the other man.
"How are you alive?" she yelled and took a step forward.
She hoped this was just a dream, that the drug maybe mixed her thoughts.
"Speak, Hong Joshua!" she yelled again, a smile on the man's face appeared.
It wasn't Jisoo who had called Mingyu, but Joshua. Seemed like the korean version of his name was 'Jisoo'.
"How do you know me?" he asked nicely, he didn't seem afraid of her.
She swallowed and thought a little, how could he be so calm?
"I saw your name on that paper, the one on Mingyu's desk! There was even a photo of you. The victims from the failed experiment were supposed to be there. Weren't you there? Didn't you die?" she said loudly, but calmer than before.
"He didn't die, Linda. He wasn't participating in the experiment that day." said Mingyu and she eyed him suspiciously.
Instead of saying a sentence every time, he could just start the explaining he owed her.
"The people who died were 11. This is a fact, isn't it? If he wasn't there, then who was the eleventh person?" she yelled at him, seeking for those damned answers that were taking too long.
He walked closer to her.
"What is going on Mingyu? Answer damn it!" she yelled again and turned her gun towards him.
He didn't freeze. He instead kept approaching her.
"The failure was planned that day. I caused the accident on purpose." he said calmly, Linda looked at him speechless.
"Don't come closer!" she yelled at him.
He had just admitted to her that he was a murderer.
"I had just changed some things related the way that machine worked, so as the experiment would continue, errors would appear and it would eventually overheat." he said and started moving his hands downwards.
"Aren't you afraid? I'll shoot you, I don't trust you!" she shouted but that wouldn't stop him.
He wasn't afraid at all.
"You won't shoot me, Linda. I know you can't." he said and then continued. "In the end, most of our process was lost and so did important data. That way we would never achieve an actual time machine, you know that well."
Her hand started shaking as he was getting closer. She trusted him, he was watching after her and was so nice to her.
Turns out he is a murderer. A cold blooded murderer who killed his partners for a stupid reason
Who could reassure him that he would build an actual time machine in the end?
"Was it worth it? Weren't they your friends? How could you! You psychopath!" she yelled and her voice cracked.
Mingyu's eyed widened at her last words, he lost his cool. He dashed on her and pushed the gun away, he grabbed her and brought her closer to his face.
"Yes! It was worth it! The only thing I earned from this was you!" he yelled at her, his expression seemed angry but there was sadness in his eyes.
Yet, he was glad she was there with him. Linda looked at him, she couldn't say anything, she tried to digest his words.
"All I wanted was to be with you. I told you that they would kill us if we gave them what they wanted. This way they wouldn't kill you yet." he said loudly, but not as loud as before.
"I love you Linda." he said as his breathing pace was increasing.
He wanted to hug her so badly, but that wasn't the right moment. He had confused her and was losing her trust.
The young woman stood still, he seemed like he believed each of his words.
She couldn't understand one thing; how could he love her so much when they had met just a few months ago.?
She liked him as well and breed deeper feelings towards him. But Mingyu had just told her that he killed his partners for her sake. They didn't know each other before the experiment, it makes no sense.
There was either something else behind this or he killed his team for his own reasons, then blamed it on his love towards her.
Maybe he was crazy and obsessed with her, what if he killed her right now, she was literally trapped between his arms.
But then it hit her. His words.. What he had said earlier.
"I can not let you die again."
Again?
When was the last time she died? She was smart, it didn't need a lot of effort to connect everything. A lot of scenarios were running through her thoughts but only one made sense at the moment.
They met once, he fell in love with her. They built a time machine and then CERN killed her. Mingyu traveled back in time and ruined the experiment, so they could never build another one again. That's how he knew her, that's why he was doing it for her. That was the best explanation.
But how did CERN find out?"What did you do, that you shouldn't? Why is CERN chasing you?" said Linda and Mingyu stared at her, thoughtful about his response.
From where should he start?
