——-August 8th, 1961——-
It was early in the morning when James woke up to find Carol gone as usual on a Wednesday.

He sighed checking in on Camilla before heading to his car. He drove where he knew he would find her.

He pulled up at St. Hope's cemetery watching his wife at a distance. She sat next to the grave with a glass of whiskey in her hand as she chatted with her bestfriend.

Carol never felt the need to make another friend. She still had Vince even though after Iris's death the two weren't as close as they used to be.
(Comment if you understand the background as to why she does this ☹️)

James sighed knowing she was well near drunk now and he should get her. He slowly approached his love giving her a sad smile.

"James just got here Ris. How about that!" She giggled. James smiled kissing Iris's headstone before picking up his wife. "But we didn't finish the bottle James. We ALWAYS finished the bottle." Carol pouted. James kissed her lips gently taking the bottle from her hands.

"I know you guys do but you've got to get home my love Camilla has school in a few hours." Carol nodded.

"I'm sorry I never get drunk like this. But seeing Jo so low really made me miss her." Carol's eyes watered. James hugged her tightly nodding.

"I miss her too. We won't let anything happen to Jo."

"Check mate." Vincent smirked at the frustrated Jolene.

"This game is stupid anyways." She grumbled crossing her arms. Vince laughed at her pettiness. "Ah Jo never one to lose. Don't you know you can't beat me in these childish games?" He taunted.

Jolene rolled her eyes trying to fight the smile on her lips. "Whatever. Hey Kalvin!" Jolene waved at the criminal sitting near by picking at the nasty prison food.

"Hola bonita." Kalvin winked. Jolene mockingly placed her hand to her heart. "What have you been up to?" She smirked.

"Beating up your old man." He chuckled but ceased when Vincent raised a brow at him. "As highly unlikely that is, how are you really doing ?" She giggled.

"Great I've been missing my wife but we have our own sexy time on the phone now. It's great!" He smiled.

"Sexy time?" Jolene scrunched her face up. "Yup while she's cooking for the kids she'll stay on the phone with me and we entertain each other." Kalvin spoke like it was obvious.

"Ew you talk like that infront of your children!" Jolene skewed her face. Kalvin and Vincent just started laughing.

"Ew dad why are you laughing?" Vincent shook his head. "Every parent does it, kids just don't notice it."

"You and mom never did!" Jolene crosses her arms in disgust. "Jo, think about all the times I told you 'Your mother and I have had a long day we are going to get some rest' or 'There some files your mother and I have to take a look at."

Jolene started thinking about it for a second before she scrunched her face up in absolute mortification. "Oh God I never want to think about that again! You guys... yanno... when I was in the house?!"

Kalvin and Vincent laughed again. "All the time." Jolene groaned in disgust. "Ugh these are the times I wished mom was here to stabilize the amount of testosterone." Jolene laughed sadly.

Vincent's smile faltered and Kalvin smiled sympathetically at the two. "I wish she was here to yell at me too." Vincent gave a weak smile and excused himself to use the restroom.

13 years later and nothing has changed. Her father had more life in him now but still, talking about missing her mom always made him emotional. Jolene had only seen him cry when she died. It was the most frightening thing she had ever witnessed. His men were equally scared as they were distraught seeing Vincent in that state. Ever since then he's been good about keeping it together around her.

"He really is doing better." Kalvin rubbed her shoulder in support. Jolene nodded swallowing to hold her emotions back. The two could never truly move on. Vincent from the devastation and Jolene from the guilt.

"The question is are you?" Kalvin inquired. Jolene furrowed her brows at him questioningly. "What are you talking about?"

"There's something off about you Miss Jo. And I think your father knows. He just wants to trust you so he hasn't said anything." Jolene scoffed and crossed her arms at his words.

"I'm fanf*ckingtasic Kalvin. Even if I wasn't that is none of your business." The two had a silent stare off. Kalvin desperate to find some falter of confidence in Jolene's eyes. But gave up when there was no sign of hesitance or fear.

"I believe you. But please just for my buddy's sake don't do anything stupid." Kalvin narrowed his eyes at her.

"I don't think anyone cares about my father's well being as much as I do. But thank you for the concern." She smiled cynically. Kalvin raised his hands up in surrender before going back to picking at his food.

Vincent returned with a plastered smile on his face. But Jo could see right through it. "Hey dad I'm going to head out soon but I'll be back in a few days." She smiled sadly.

Even though Vincent was locked up, Jo spent more time with him than she did with anyone else the past 13 years.

Vincent frowned but nodded. The mood was ruined. He embraced his daughter in a long hug. They always had a tough time saying goodbye to each other.

"Bye Jo." He smirked watching her hesitate to leave twisting on her heels. Ever since she was 4 years old she was incapable of leaving him alone. She did this every single time. She rolled her eyes with a smile playing at her lips. "I'm going, I'm going."

———

A few hours later Vincent was graced with the face of his best friend James. "Hey Boss." He smirked. Vince rolled his eyes but couldn't contain the smile.

"I'm not your boss any more a**hole." The two men laughed but stopped once James's face grew serious and concerned.

"How've you been?" Vincent shrugged. "I'm alive, I have Jo and you guys. I'm good."

"We have to talk about Jo Vince." James inhaled. "I know she's up to something I just don't know how bad it is." Vince admitted.

James sighed nervously. "Well you know me. I did some digging and talk to some people and Vince you aren't going to like it."

Vincent clenched his jaw and tightened his fists before nodding.

"Tell me."
