Chapter 33: The other hood

Pero hindi rin nagtagal ay bumitiw na siya sa yakap. Napailing siya habang tumitingin sakin na para bang naaawa saka nagbuntong hininga. Ang mga mata niya...hindi siya katulad ng mga matang alam ko.

"I'm sorry." Sa paghingi niya ng tawad tila ba naintindihan ko na ang lahat. Nagising ang diwa ko at narealize kong hindi siya. Hindi siya ang taong hinihintay ko.

I raised my hand and touched his face. They may have the same face but they have different expressions. His eyes were clear enough to be able to see through him but the eyes I know were deep, deep enough to make you drown in it.

"You looked so much like him. Ikaw siguro ang kakambal niya hindi ba?" This one looks gentler than the Lei I know.

"He asked me to go here but I just can't act like him in front of you. I can't lie looking with that longing eyes of yours, Ella." He looked at me apologetically as I took a step back away.

"Nathan right? So how is he?"

Tila ba nagdadalawang isip siya kung sasagutin niya ang tanong ko kaya hinawakan ko ang kamay niya sa pag asang maiintindihan niya ang nararamdaman ko. Hinawakan niya ang pabalik ang kamay ko ng mahigpit saka ito binitawan.

He heaved a deep sigh before finally uttering the words I want to hear.

"He's fine for now but I don't think it would last for long." His words made me worried. What does he mean by that?

"Nikolei, my brother misses you so much. He might lose his mind while facing all those troubles without being able to see you." Lei was facing troubles? How come?

Ano ba talagang nangyayari? Bakit ba kasi kailangan niyang umalis?

"Then why did he leave? If he's facing troubles then I'm willing to help him. If he's losing his mind because of not seeing me then he should have stayed right here beside me."

It's not just him. Hearing this from his twin makes me worried. Kung anu anong pumapasok sa isip ko lalo na at wala akong ideya kung ano ba talagang nangyayari at kung nasaan na ba siya ngayon.

"He wanted to stay he really do but he can't. He can't stay with you. Not now or anytime sooner." He felt sorry as he was saying that. I can totally see it.

I gave him a bittersweet smile.

"So he chose to stay away and send you as a substitute because he can't even come here for a second to take a glimpse of me. Is that it?" I feel frustrated and hurt.

Hindi ko alam kung anong mas masakit. Yung nawala na lang siyang parang bula o yung nangako siyang babalik pero hindi naman pala.

"I'm sorry if my presence here only hurted you but I want you to know that my brother really cares for you. He wouldn't stay away if he doesn't have to. He's doing it for you." Now I can't help but wonder. Lei was staying away for my sake that's what Nathan was saying right? Then why?

Why does he have to do that?

"Ella, don't think too much. Just remember that my brother loves you." he patted my back gently before he finally bid his goodbye.

Don't think too much? That's not possible. After saying all those things my mind is full of questions. I can't get Lei out of my mind right now. Not when I can see him even in this room...in my bed where he told me that I'm his. His property.

I need a distraction. One that can make me forget him even for just a while.

*phone beeps*
