Chapter 5
I lay my head on my fist, fighting my sleep to the best of my ability. My eyes water because their burning, and I refuse to shut them for more than a few seconds. I’m trying my hardest to stay up longer then Aaliyah so I can decorate her face. She told me if I fell asleep she was going to get me, and I am not going out like that.
“You asleep?” Aaliyah asks looking up from across the room on the other sofa.
I lift my head up, and I rest on both of my elbows. “Almost…I need to sit up, and talk, or do something because I will fall asleep.”
Aaliyah gets up from under her blanket, and she sits Indian style. “Let’s talk…this is the perfect time to vent, and get to know each other better.”
“Okay…you first.”
Aaliyah sucks her teeth. “Just ask me questions…anything you want to know just ask.”
I nod my head. “Okay…who’s your favorite singer…or rapper?” I ask as I lean my head on my fist, wanting to fall asleep so bad.
“I like Stevie Wonder, as well as a lot of other people. But he has to be like my number one favorite. What about you?”
“I like a lot of artist, it’s hard to just choose one. But if I had to choose I’d say Teddy Pendergrass. I had a huge crush on him when I was a little girl.”
Aaliyah giggles. “That’s too cute. So what’s your favorite movie?”
“Oh that’s easy, it’s always going to be Blazing Saddles. Richard Pryor is a genius for that, I swear.”
“Your old school like me, I like that. My favorite movie is Silence of the Lambs. I love thriller, and horror films.”
I smile. “I love that movie too, haven’t seen it in a while.”
“You know they have it on Netflix.”
I raise a brow. “I’d have to check that out.” I say as my eyelids slowly fall.
“JANET!” Aaliyah says yelling at me, waking me up. I almost fell out in the middle of our conversation.
