Chapter 21
Janet
"I can't believe she dumped me."
I shake my head as I hold Toni's hand, rubbing it in comfort.
"Did she at least give you a reason as to why she ended things?"
Toni nods then she wipes her face. "She said if she wasn't so worried about spending time with me she would have been more focused on her mother's well being."
I furrow my brows.
"But spending time with your lover is what your supposed to do...what's the point of being in a relationship if you don't see each other?"
Toni shrugs. "I'm not about to sit here, and act hard like I don't care, cause I do care...and I'm hurt. I'm mad because I really liked her."
I rub her back, and I bring her head down to my shoulder.
"Trust me...I know how it feels. Just let it all out."
Some of Toni's tears fall on my thigh, and she notices it because she wipes it. "I'm sorry." She lifts her head up from my shoulder, and she stands up.
"I'm about to go to bed. You can stay over if you want but if not..just lock the door on your way out."
Toni goes into her bedroom, and closes the door. I was gonna stay but I decided to just go home, she needs a little bit of time alone.
I pulled out my phone for the first time since I left my house, and I have a two missed calls and three text messages from Aaliyah.
The text messages read.
Where you at? 9:48pm
Jan...are you still coming over? 11:12pm
You....stood....me...up. 1:23am
I replied back.
I didn't stand you up, an emergency came up.
What happened?
Hazel's mother passed away, and she broke up with Toni.
Seriously...???
Yeah...omw home now.
So I guess that means your not coming over n e more?
Yeah I'm still coming.

When I showed up at Aaliyah's apartment she let me in wearing one of those short silk dresses she loved wearing to bed. Some things about her never changed.
"Are you staying over?" Aaliyah asks closing the door.
"I guess so...it could be like our first slumber party together. When you were asking me personal ass questions just to keep me awake."
