Aaliyah

            Chapter 6

“Okay let’s say a quick prayer before you guys go out there.” Janet says, and we all gather up in a circle, holding each other’s hand. I bow my head, and I close my eyes.

Janet begins to say the prayer. “Father God we thank you for allowing us to wake up to see another day, we thank you for this empowering message we’re able to deliver to others lord god, and we ask that you bless us with the strength, to get through this show smoothly lord god, and we ask that you bless those who weren’t able to make it here today lord god in Jesus name we pray….Amen”

“Amen” Everybody says in unison, and then I walk over to Janet.

“I’m super nervous.” I say as I bite down on my bottom lip.

Janet moves some of my hair out of my face, as she tries to fix my hair. “I’m nervous too, but you’re the star…go out there and shine like the diamond you are girl. I know you will do great, and even if you don’t do great I will still be thankful for you. You stepped up, and took on a responsibility that wasn’t even yours to begin with, and I really appreciate that.” Janet pauses, and she smiles.

“You look really beautiful. Thanks again for doing this, I really appreciate it.” Janet says hugging me tightly.

I smile. “Thanks Janet, don’t get me to crying.”

I say pulling away from the hug. She nods her head. “Right...don’t want your makeup to be ruined. Okay I’m going to go out in the Audience, good luck.” Janet jogs out the side doors, and I stand on the side waiting for my cue to go on stage. Once the classical instrumental strums through the speakers, I take slow steps in a waltz sway out onto the stage.

Anthony the lead guy starts off singing his verse.

“Staring in the mirror as I, Start to carefully contemplate, just really how deep is this thing I have for you. It's wearing on my heart, and from the start you know I tried, steadily denied.”

That’s when I sit down on the bed prop, and I cross my leg across the other. I begin to sing, even though butterflies were having a field day in my stomach I couldn’t let it show.

“Friendship turn to love, I know you probably think that I'm so strange, stuttering on every word when you look my way, and why? And maybe it's all in my mind, but when we hugged goodbye I had butterflies…I just died…yeah yeah yeah.”

The background singers chime in behind the scenes as I move my shoulders in sync with the music, getting into character.

“I just died in your arms tonight, don't want nobody to bring me back to life. I just died in your arms tonight, hey. I just died in your arms, I just died in your arms tonight, tonight.” They sang, and from there on I started to feel a bit more comfortable, I just couldn’t wait for the dance scene, because that’s my favorite part.
