Chapter15
Hazel
After taking a few breast exams, and dealing with teenage girls who caught an STD, and waited so long to get checked out I clocked out of work while waving good bye to Charlene behind the reception desk. She's the only one who doesn't have some type of problem with me at this clinic.
While in the parking garage, I press the unlock button on my car remote to remind me where I parked my car. After a long day of work, I sometimes forget which side it's parked on, and where. When I notice the blinking lights from my car, I walk towards it while pulling the satchel strap up on my shoulder. After sitting my satchel, and folder booklet in the backseat I get in the car, and pull out of the parking garage.
When I get stuck waiting for a train I decide to call my mother, and let her know about my plans this weekend, since it was such short notice.
I use my Bluetooth headset, as I wait for her to answer.
"Hello?" My mother answers sounding as if her throat is clogged.
"Hey mama, did I wake you?"
"Yeah sweetheart, but what's the matter?" She clears her throat.
"Tomorrow I'm going out of town with a few friends, and I wanted to let you know ahead of time. Do you need me to call Jennifer for you, so she can come by?"
"Where are you going, and why am I just now hearing about this?"
I rub the bridge of my noise, as I rest my head back. "It was short notice, and we're just going on a road trip. To see parts of California we don't see much of."
She groans as if she's shifting in bed, and has pain. "Okay honey. And yeah...call Jennifer for me. I'm going to go back to bed now hear?...call me in the morning. I love you."
I smile. "Love you too mom. Goodnight." I hang up the call, and the train finally goes by.
It took about half an hour for me to get home, since my job was further away from my house. When I stepped through the door, I sat everything down. I laid down on the couch, exhausted, and just ready for friday. Thank god I already had the weekend off, because I promise you I need this break more than anybody. I work my ass off at that clinic, and if it wasn't for my paycheck, I would have been doing something totally different with my life.
I pull off my medical scrubs, and I walk down the hall and toss them in the laundry basket. I grab my phone, and I go into my bathroom to take a nice hot bath. While filling the Jacuzzi tub up with hot water, I pour hazelnut honey scented bath wash into the streaming water to make soapy bubbles. And I play Pandora as I step slowly into the tub.
Since my hair was already tied up, and I didn't wear makeup to work. I don't have much to do when I get home except strip and close my eyes. A slow Donell Jones song plays through my Bluetooth speakers that I had in my window, as I snuggle up under the water with my eyes closed. This is the way I relaxed, after coming home from work.
I hum along to the lyrics, and then after a few seconds the music stops and the face time ring tone starts chiming. I dry my hands with the hand towel I had nearby, and I grab it to see that it's Toni.
I answer, setting the camera on my face only. "Hey you!" I say with a smile.
Her camera shakes as she tries to adjust it while she's laying in bed on her side. "Hey Hazel, how was work?"
I roll my eyes. "Tiresome...just glad to be home." I cross my legs under the water, and It makes a splash sound.
She furrows her brows. "What was that?"
