1970
It was another night at the local pub I would perform at. Live music, drinks are passed around, dancing and the normal doing at the pub. Although I'm not in a band, I wrote a song, and now I'm here to test it out, since this is just a hobby. I can't really play instruments in general, I only know the basics. Anything that gets me by is fine with me.I patiently sit at the bar drinking the preshow jitters away with my guitar at my side. Guess it's my turn, I thought, as the band in stage ends their set and pack up. I slowly made my way to the stage with the guitar and adjusted the microphone. Getting comfortable on the stool , I pick up my guitar and introduced myself, " 'Ello my name is (Y/N) (L/N). I hope you like this set." Taking a deep breath I began to strum the strings...
(Play song)
One, two, three
If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the sunshine outI couldn't help but smile and close my eyes while singing. Relying on my muscle memory of the cords as I began to lightly sway side to side with the beat.
And say hello to never
All the people are dancing
And they're having such fun
I wish it could happen to me
But if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again
If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the wine-glass out
And drink a toast to never
Oh, someday I know
Someone will look into my eyes
And say hello
You're my very special one
But if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again
Dark party bars, shiny Cadillac cars
And the people on subways and trains
Looking gray in the rain,
As they stand disarrayed
Oh, but people look well in the dark
And if you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the sunshine out
And say hello to neverI started to strum a faster beat as the song was coming to an end
All the people are dancing
And they're having such fun
I wish it could happen to me
Cause if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again
I'd never have to see the day again,
Once more
I'd never have to see the day againAfter playing the last note I open my eyes to see the crowd applauding. It wasn't rock or punk, which I'm sure these people came here to listen too, but it was a simple and meaningful song. "Thank you. My name is (Y/N) (L/N), goodnight everyone", after all is said and done I walk off stage to the bar once more with the guitar and order another drink. While watching the bartender make the drink, I fail to notice another band set up on stage. "We're Smile as you all know and will be playing a couple of songs for you tonight" the lead singer, who's name I later found out was Tim, adjusted himself so he could sing and walk around stage. Looking at the band I noticed the guitarist and drummer. The guitarist was tall yet slim, and had long curly hair that reminded me of a poodle. The drummer on the other hand had long wavy dirty blond hair that looked unkept and was more on the muscular side. I would occasionally look at them and admire their talent and features.
As the night went on Smile was playing their last song of the night.
Yesterday my life was in ruin
Now today I know what I'm doin'
Gotta feelin' I should be doin' alrightThe mellow tone of the music was playing in the background as I saw a male walk down the stairs and sit and the bar next to me, ordering a drink while paying close attention to the band on stage. I took a glance at him and noticed his features. Shoulder length hair, pudgy jawline, slim and a noticeable overbite. After taking another glance I looked at his overbite once more. Must be a pain in the ass to have something as noticeable as that, I thought.
Doin' alright
Where will I be this time tomorrow
Jumping with joy or sinking in sorrowAs the music started to speed up he seemed to look around at others in the pub and slightly started to move along with the music.
Anyway I should be doin' alright
Doin' alright
Should be waiting for the sun
Anyway I've got to hide
Going back to where the skies are blue
Going home to find the oneLosing track of time ,I realize I was so busy taking glances at the man, Smile had finished playing and packed up their equipment and left the stage. As the band left the stage the man next to me, who I realized couldn't be much older than I am, seemed to have suddenly get up and leave. Walking in the same direction that the band left in.
Cursing at myself, I look at the time on my watch. Damn, I didn't think I'd be out so late. I have classes early tomorrow morning. Looking around then back at the bartender. I waved him down and paid for my drinks before leaving.
After getting into my car, I reach into my glove compartment to pull out a random cassette tape hoping it wasn't a trashy band that one of my friends might have left in the car and pop it in. Once I hear what's playing, I turn up the volume on my radio. I couldn't help but start drumming to the beat on the stirring wheel with my index fingers. Not missing a beat, I sing along like it's no ones business
Here come old flat top
He come groovin' up slowly
He got joo joo eyeballs
He one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker
He just do what he pleaseOccasionally I'd deepen my voice trying to imitate The Beatles.
He wear no shoeshine
He got toe jam football
He got monkey finger
He shoot Coca-Cola
He say I know you, you know me
One thing I can tell you is
You got to be free
Come together, right now
Over me
He bad production
He got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard
He one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair
You can feel his disease
Come together, right nowI pretend like there was a microphone in my hand as I sang each and every word
Over me
He roller coaster
He got early warning
He got muddy water
He one Mojo filter
He say one and one and one is threeI'd head bang occasionally to the music or nod along with it
Got to be good looking
'Cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now
Over me
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeah
Come together, yeahAs the song came to an end, I pulled up to my flat. Turning off the radio and car, I look up at the window to see if there are any lights on. Looks like my roommate isn't home, I thought. Probably out with her boyfriend shagging or some shit.
While walking up the steps I pull out my keys and enter. At least it's not a mess like last time. Sighing I walk up the stairs to the bedroom, change, then get in bed. Classes are going to be a bitch when I wake up. Groaning loudly, I turn off the lamp on my night stand and slowly let the darkness of the night consume my conscious.
