We were on the same page for what felt like three seconds. All of us were reading along just fine until Gwen decided to go back a page because she missed something. While Jason went ahead because he felt we were moving too slow. So now I'm here on page thirty three, while Gwen is on thirty two and Jason's in thirty four.
That analogy went on for a little too long right? Well dragging Gwen back to the car was taking to long too. So we both get to suffer. As I moved closer, Gwen would walk father away from me. She consistently put her thumb out, which annoyed me to know end.
"Gwen, put your thumb down. Nobody is going to stop for you."
Gwen stared at the cars flying by. "I can still try."
I rolled my eyes. "Gwen your being childish."
Gwen mocked me by rolling her eyes dramatically. "And your being too adult-ish. Let me blow off steam however I want. I'm not going to actually jump into a car."
I crossed my arms. "Sticking your thumb out is how you blow off steam? Thumbs up 7UP must be your favorite game."
That earned me a smirk. "That's right Mom. Better too have my thumb sticking out then up my ass."
We laughed together. She dropped her thumb and sighed. "I'm sorry. We should be moving."
I pointed to our borrowed van. "We can make up for that if you get in the car."
Gwen shrugged. "I guess, but..... before we go. What do you think?"
My smile melted. Gwen seemed genuinely conflicted about her decision. That was the thing however, she had already made her decision. "Gwen, What do you want me to tell you?"
Gwen crossed her arms. "I....... don't know. I guess...... I just wanna know if your going to stop me? I guess."
That was a good question. Would I stop her if I had the chance? I certainly didn't share the same ideals that Jason did, I do think that some people just don't deserve to live. However, the consequences can be overwhelming. I should know, I had to make a similar choice years ago. I shrugged. "Sounds like you want me to stop you."
Gwen shook her head. "No it's..... I don't know. I'll- Who's that?"
I spun my head around towards the van. Someone was standing outside of the passenger door. It looked like a man. A tall man with a stranger coat..... or were those animal pelts?
"Oh no." I muttered to myself. I realized it way too late. The monster jabbed his arm into the car window to get inside. "Jason!"
Suddenly, every hair on my body stood up. I saw Jason crash through the opposite window, falling on the gravel on the side of the road. The Wolf King followed after him, climbing through the car. I heard Gwen about to rush past me, but I wrapped my arms around her waist.
"Let go of me! We have to help-"
BOOOOOM
A bolt of lightning struck the car, sending it into flames. Gwen and I collapsed on the ground, covering our faces. We raised our heads once the bright light faded. The car smoked and burned, basking the highway with eerie shadows.
And from those shadows, came the wolves. Their blood red eyes circling Gwen and I. Their black fur caked with blood and mouths dripping with Saliva. While the situation was dire, my mind wasn't entirely focused on the threat ahead of us.
Out of the wreckage of the van, crawled the Wolf King. He slowly pulled himself to his feet. He limped over to Jason and grabbed his arm. Dragging him away.
