"So is he going to wake up anytime soon?" I asked Gwen.
Gwen rubbed the side of her head. "So when are you going to stop asking that question?"
Gwen dabbed to fingers into a jar of nectar and wiped it on his forehead. She whispered something to low for me to hear, making Jason shiver and turn to his side.
Gwen wiped her forehead, looking pale. "He's getting better by the day, but he'll need time. You wouldn't notice how long it's taking if you'd step out of this building."
"Well I'm not going anywhere until I know he's okay." I said.
Gwen shrugged. She walked over to a clip board and wrote something down. "Are you sure your not his girlfriend?"
I sat down on my chair. "Positive."
Gwen finished writing and hanged the clip board near the door. "Well just know that being locked up in a building for two days straight is not good for you either. Goodnight."
Gwen closed the door behind her, leaving me alone with Jason. I crossed my arms, feeling frustrated. I really did want to leave this room. Gwen and some of the other nurses did there best to keep me occupied. They gave me tasks to do with helping Jason and other patients in the infirmary. A lot of the campers seem to come through here regularly. So much so that they seemed to make a game out of it. So far Crazy Billy Bob holds the record with two hundred and one visits.
With each Camper I took care of, I learned more and more about what goes on outside of these walls. I would over here conversations about activities such as war games, unicorn chariot races and sky diving. Each of them sounding incredibly dangerous and fun. I wanted to see what it was like.
Some of the other stuff I overheard made me nervous as well. I heard conversations about politics. Rumors about John, the other Praetor I hadn't met, retiring soon. Senate elections coming soon and even Justice. She seemed to be a popular topic amongst the campers, apparently she was some kind of activist. Some campers even spread rumors about her running for a position as a senator or even Praetor.
Politics were something I always hated talking about. Before my father had gone fully insane, it was a topic he would always go on about when brought up. He would yell about how those greedy politicians made working people fight there wars while they watched from a distance. So hearing that this place had its own form of politics was disheartening.
All this information about the Camp made me both excited and anxious. I would be stepping into a totally different world. One where I would have to find my place and go from there. The idea of doing that alone terrified me. I would never admit it to him, but I stood by Jason because I didn't want to face what's out there alone.
The infirmary was mostly silent through out the night. The exception being the soft humming of the machines near Jason's bed. The droning had me nodding off, until something caught my attention.
The walls in the infirmary were pretty thin, probably by design. I could hear down the hall muiltple people walking loudly, no doubt wearing heavy gear. They were coming towards my room. My senses were on high alert, something was wrong.
I rushed over to the side of the door and waited. I pulled Jason's coin from my pocket and summoned his sword. I could hear muiltple people gathering outside my door.
"Open it," a voice commanded.
The door swung open, almost smashing me in the process. Three large men entered into the room, each of them wearing golden armor. The one standing in the middle wore a long purple cloak, just like Sam's.
"I thought there were two of them?" The man in the purple cloak said. His voice was rough, like he spent a lot of his time yelling.
"There is." I said behind them, stepping out of the shadows.
