Paralyzed Heart

Mia's POV

"How am I supposed to go to school today after what happened? I'll look like a complete loser!" I told Rachel over the phone.

"It's going to be okay, just come."

"Fine!" I hung up and sighed, giving the idea of going to school a second thought. Not going today won't change anything, I mean, I can't stay home for the rest of my life. I'll just have to face this.

I got up and made my way to the closet to pick out something to wear. I wore a pink dress with a black belt around my waist. I left my hair in loose curls and put on light pinkish make-up.

I picked up a coffee on the way to school. I parked my Ferrari beside Rebecca's Maserati and walked to the girls, who were talking about how cute the new Armani catalogue is.

"Great, you're here." Rachel said with a tone of relief in her voice.

I just rolled my eyes at her for stating the obvious.

"You okay?" Rebecca asked, giving me an uncertain look.

"Yeah I'm fine...Lets just get this over with."

The girls and I walked down the hallway and I was surprised to see that the usual eyes were looking at us with impressed expressions like they always do.

Aren't they supposed to be laughing at me right now?

My trails of thoughts were cut off by Rachel.

"Told you so," she smiled at me and I smiled back. That didn't change the fact that something was wrong.

I sat alone, nibbling on my toffee macaroon and thinking about what made those people in the hallway not laugh at me.

"What's up, Kitty?" Jake asked, putting his Oreo frozen yoghurt with sprinkles beside me and taking the seat next to mine.

 I looked up and saw Mike, Nate, Rachel and Rebecca sitting opposite me.

Wow, talk about being absent minded, Mia.

I completely ignored his question and continued chewing on my macaroon.

Rebecca changed the subject to Rachel and Nate's relationship. Mike was just talking about how Nate had built up the courage to ask Rachel and how he was trembling before he finally went for it. All of us laughed at this and Nate just looked down, embarrassed.

Then Rebecca started on how Rachel has trust issues and Nate better not screw up.

"Yeah, you hurt her, well, you better pray I'm dead before I find out because you'll be dead meat, otherwise." I said giving him my best smile.

Nate just held up his hands in surrender and we all laughed at this.                                               

"So, Mia, did you thank Jake?" Nate said looking straight into my eyes.

"Why would I?" I questioned him.

"Wow, Mia. You should definitely take a trip to Oz and see if the wizard can find you a heart!" Mike said, all offended.

"Babe, she doesn't know yet." Rebecca added

"What the fuck are you guys talking about? Please do enlighten me!" I said sarcastically.

"Jake intentionally bumped into the table where Mona's cake was placed and it fell right on top of her when she was about to cut it." Rachel said grinning

"He did that so everyone would forget about what happened to you and so you wouldn't be embarrassed anymore."

I looked at Jake, shocked. He looked into my eyes with a sexy intense look on his face that made my heart melt.

He smiled at me and said," You're welcome, Kitty."

I, on the other hand just sat there, speechless and unsure of what to say.

"No way," I said in a low tone and stared at my box of macaroons.

The bell rang and everyone started going towards the classes they were scheduled to take.

Rebecca and Mike left together for Chemistry, Rachel and Nate shared a good ten minute kiss, then, left for different classes.

Jake was about to leave when I grabbed his arm. He turned around to face me but I was too busy admiring his features. The messy hair, those mesmerizing eyes and man that face!

"I, um, I just wanted to thank you for what you did. It means a lot to me."

He moved closer until his face was inches away from mine. I could feel his warm breath on my neck and that seriously took my breath away.

"For you, a thousand times over." He whispered.
