Afraid of rejection

Jake's POV

I lay on my couch with one leg on the ground. I stared at the ceiling above me and thought about Mia. It's undoubtedly priceless to spend time with her. She's beautiful, no wait, make that sexy. She's funny and takes my breath away by just walking past me. I'm surprised by how I even manage to talk normal in front of her because my legs clearly tremble when she around.

Dude, you're Jake Anderson! You can do anything.

The little voice reminded me that it would be easy to get Mia in my grasp but its freaking Mia Devlin we're talking about!

I'm not shy or anything, I can totally ask her out but I'm just afraid that it won't turn out well. Apart from that, even I'm not sure about my feelings for her. I like her for sure but will our relationship even work out? I lay, deep in thought when my phone beeped. I swiped the screen of my phone and saw that Mike had sent me a message.

Hey asshole! Meet us at Mr. Waffle.

Mr. Waffle? Are you serious?

What? I was craving a good waffle! Plus they have an amazing chocolate pie!

I'll be there in ten minutes.

I replied to his last text and changed into a simple grey shirt. I let my hair stay all messy and drove to Mr. Waffle where I saw my idiot friends already stuffing themselves with pie.

"Hey, princess" Nate said and Mike burst out laughing while I showed him the finger to which they both burst out laughing.

I took a seat and picked up the extra cup of coffee that the boys had ordered for me. I sat silently and listened to them blabbering about their girlfriends. I sighed and scratched the back of my head. They looked at me and I gave them my 'what the fuck look'.

"Is something wrong?" Mike asked suspiciously.

"No, everything's fine." I said and took a sip of my coffee.

"Of course it is!" The boys said sarcastically, in unison.

"I'm just confused about something." I confessed because there was no point in lying to them.

"Let me guess, it has something to do with Mia?" Nate said and I nodded.

"What about her? I mean we know you're crazy over her, but, you know." Mike asked and I took a deep breath before answering.

"Look, I'm just not sure about my feelings for her. I mean my life changed since the day I met her but I don't know, I'm just not sure whether asking her out is a good call or not."

"You know, it seems that you're clear about what you feel for her. It's her feelings you're not sure about." Mike said emphasizing on the word 'her'.

I thought about it for a while and Mike was actually right, I did like her. 

"Jake, there's just one thing you're doing wrong here." Nate suddenly spoke.

"You know, you're in love with her but you're too macho to admit it. Your ego messes up everything for you." He added.

"You're right, I guess I'm just afraid of rejection." I confessed.

"Dude! You're Jake Anderson!" They said in unison.

"She's Mia Devlin!" I reminded them and that shut them up.

"Who told you to go for her then? Dickhead!" Nate said and Mike chuckled.

"Tell you what, we'll ask the girls if she's mentioned anything to them." Nate offered and I nodded.

Mia's POV

The girls and I were out for a shopping session  but all I had in mind was my conversation with Jake I had the other night, at the fashion show.

Why is he so overprotective about me? I mean he clearly bothered about what Tyler had said to him.

"Mia!" Rachel yelled and I snapped back to reality. We were now at a coffee shop and I hadn't even noticed.

Get him out of your head Mia! You can't trust him! He's just like every other guy except he has the sexiest body and don't start with that beautiful face! Oh my god the hair!

I caught myself literally fangirling over Jake, but then I remembered the promise I had made myself.

"Babe, are you ok?" Rebecca asked, concerned and I shook my head.

"What's wrong?" The girls asked in unison.

"It's Jake" That's all I could get out at that moment.

"And?" Rachel asked for further explanation.

"I don't know, it's just that, I sort of," I stammered and the girls gave me their 'what the hell are you trying to say' look.

"Let me guess. You like him but you're having a hard time convincing yourself?" Rebecca guessed.

"Yes! Exactly!" I said and they awed in unison.

"Mia, I know you have a hard time trusting guys because of obvious reasons but that was just one relationship." Rachel stated and I ran my fingers through my hair.

"Exactly! Take Rachel for example, she had a bad history with relationships but she went for Nate anyway. And we all know how well it's working out." Rebecca added and took a bite of her chocolate tart.

I gave it a thought and they were right, I mean I can't stay single for the rest of my life just because of Tyler! He'll win that way.

"So, are you going to talk to him about it?" Rachel asked enthusiastically.

"Pfftt, no! I'm not even sure if he likes me back. He loves his ego, I doubt he'll come around."

"What the hell is wrong with both of you? Can't you put your egos aside for like a day or something?" Beccs said annoyed.

"What do you want me to do? Go ask him out and then get rejected?" I replied.

"I doubt that'll happen, you're Mia Devlin!" Rachel added and I found that to be a pathetic excuse!
