Nineteen

Selena, Tony and their parents were chatting away in the living room after dinner.

They told the kids they are staying for a couple of days. They had to fly off again to take care of business.

Selena: So soon?! Stay a week at least!

Henry: Im so sorry kiddo. There are still many things to do with such a new business. I cant keep the other employees running it for me for long. We wanted to ensure you guys are ok.

Selena: No worries Daddy. We are good here. But... I do have some things to tell you.

Selena looked towards Tony who shifted uncomfortably knowing where this conversation is heading.

Selena: Tony is dating!

Tony stared at Selena mouthing "What the hell?"

Grace went to hug Tony.

Grace: Oh Tony! Ive been waiting for this day for so long! Its a girl right?

Tony: Mum! What is that supposed to mean?

Grace: Well you know, I have never seen you date before. I thought that maybe.. you are not into girls.

Tony: What the hell mum!

They laughed so hard.

Grace: So tell me more? Who is she?

Tony started turning red.

Selena: Maybe we should invite her over.

Grace: That would be wonderful! Id love to meet her. How about you honey? Any special boy?

Henry: I hope not. She is my baby girl.

Selena: Daddy!

Selena: Erm... ya. Im seeing someone too. He is kinda Tony's best friend.

Henry: Tony! You are supposed to protect her not play matchmaker!

Tony: Dad. I tried! I was furious with it but what to do? She is stubborn.

Grace: Well that is great then. Invite them all tomorrow for lunch.

Selena: Can I bring another friend? He is sort of part of the group too.

Grace: Why not? The more the merrier.

Selena: Anyway Mummy, Daddy. (She started gently) I do want to thank you for taking care of me, loving me so much and raising me up as your own.

Henry and Grace gasped and turn to Tony angrily.

Henry: Tony! What did you do?

Selena: No Daddy. He didnt tell me. I overheard his conversation with his best friends. I know everything Daddy.

Grace: Oh honey! You were not meant to know any of this. You are our daughter. No matter what happens.

Tony: Sorry mum and dad. I shouldnt have said anything but I was trying to explain my overprotectiveness over her. And why I dont want her to date.

Henry: You should have known better Tony.

Selena hugged her father.

Selena: No matter what. You will always be my daddy. Forever.

Grace: Do you... remember everything honey?

Selena shook her head.

Selena: Im glad I dont. But Im glad I know all this now. Im grateful for everything youve done for me. I love you guys so much.
