When Sophie looked back, she saw nothing.
"Tee hee hee!" Biana giggled. "Maybe this extra practice is actually paying off!"
"What do you mean?" Sophie asked, with a mix of confusion and worry on her face.
Biana sighed. "I never knew the day would come so soon when I'd have to explain common sense to Sophie Foster. The Queen of the Lost Cities,"一Biana ignored Sophie's questioning look to that statement and continued一"saver of many, mind healer of few一"
"Okay, Biana, I get the point," Sophie interrupted with a smirk on her face. "I'm pretty cool."
Biana rolled her eyes dramatically and said, "Not the point, Sophie. But I am a little offended since you forgot my ability so bad that you couldn't even realize that I was using it right in front of your face."
Sophie paused at a loss for words while Biana frowned, frustrated that she couldn't even come up with a decent excuse for her mishap.
"Well, I'm sorry," Sophie apologized. "Now can you tell me why we're here?"
Biana gave Sophie a worried glance. Um, do something! Biana thought.
"Before we do that . . ." Biana started, "Why don't we catch up? It's been . . . so . . . long since we've done it!"
Sophie gave Biana a puzzled look. "Why did you hesitate?" She asked.
"Why can't I?" Biana protested.
"Why should you need to?" Sophie pressed.
"Fitz," Biana blurted, unsure of what to say.
"That doesn't work, Biana," Sophie glared at her. "Anymore."
"Um, well," Biana scrambled for something to say. How much time do they need for this? She cleared her throat and whispered, "What about Keefe?"
"What about who?" Sophie asked.
"What about Keefe?" Biana repeated a little louder.
"What about him?" Sophie raised her voice, eyeing Biana suspiciously.
"Nothing," Biana said, lowering her head, but then quietly whispered, "Just wondering if you've seen him recently."
Unfortunately, Sophie heard her, and was suddenly questioning everything about her "so-called friend."
"What is going on with you?" Sophie asked, furious. "Why am I even here 一why am I even trusting you?"
"Sophie, stop," Biana pleaded. "I don't understand what got you like this, but I know it's not me who's changed."
"Well, neither have I. Why do you want to know if I've seen Keefe lately? Are you out of your mind? What makes you think that I would一given the fact that both Dex and I are stuck here for no apparent reason?"
Biana was upset, at not only Sophie but at herself. She tried not to let it show; fear and sadness are weaknesses. They don't improve; they impair. Ever since Biana got kidnapped by those people, she had to learn to defend herself.
She had to become stronger than the Princess Prettypants everyone thought she was.
Which was why she was thankful that Marella was with her.
Marella was the strongest person she knew, and the most hard-headed. She could defend herself in a way that Biana had always hoped to do for herself. And so Marella had taught一
"Hello?" Sophie asked, arms crossed.
"Right," Biana shook her head, draining out all the thoughts pouring into her head. "I know that you and Dex are stuck here, and I'm honestly surprised at how patient you two are being. You know what?" Biana looked at her pretend watch on her wrist and said "You should go back now. Callie must be waiting for you."
"But I still don't know why I'm here?" Sophie asked as Biana started to gently push her out of the room.
"One question, though." Sophie stopped. "What have you been up to recently?"
"Ah, just hanging out with Marella, and Kylie一" Sophie gagged at the mention of her name"一doing normal stuff."
Sophie eyed her again but ignored it. "Odd, but okay. Bye."
Biana sighed the second the door shut tight behind her friend. She was also glad to have been able to let Sophie know what she's been up to. What Biana had told Sophie wasn't wrong, though.
Biana had gotten into trickery with Marella recently. There was nothing else here to do, except to go to class and practice your ability. Biana hadn't been there long: two weeks at most.
It was hard to keep track of the days here. Each day was the same routine for everyone:
1) Wake up
2) Eat breakfast
3) Go to class
4) Eat lunch
5) Go to class
6) Eat dinner
7) Go to bed
Biana pulled her Imparter out of her back pocket. "Let's see if Mabel's available."
"Show me Mabel Scott," Biana spoke into the Imparter. A couple of rings passed, and Biana was about to give up until a cheerful voice was heard from the Imparter.
"Hey, Biana," Mabel said. "How's it going?"
"Just showed Sophie the Supplies room," Biana replied casually. "Did you get the letter to Shon?"
"Yup. He put it on Sophie's beanbag, and made sure that Dex's classes went on longer so Sophie could get to it first."
"Unnecessary, but okay," Biana said. Before she could hear Mabel's voice again, her mind enveloped her with more overflowing thoughts, bringing her right back to the day where she joined the Dreamwatchers . . .
