Remember in chapter twenty-four, I said that there'd be a special chapter on Biana? Well, here it is!
Biana walked up the grand staircase to reach her room. While walking in, she accidentally stubbed her toe on something rough. "Gah!" She cried, clutching her toe. Biana made her way to her bed before she scoured the floor for whatever tripped her.
She flopped down on her comfy mattress, satisfied by herself slowly sinking further and further down in her soft mattress. "Now, what was that?" Biana asked herself as she reluctantly rose from her bed and peered in the direction of whatever stubbed her toe.
"What is that?" Biana went towards it and slowly picked up the brown box waiting for her on the floor of her bedroom. It was the colour of a tree trunk and had beautiful intricate designs on the front. Biana traced her finger against the vines that wrapped itself around most of the box.
Suddenly, the tip of her finger reached a different pattern.
Some sort of symbol, to be exact.
From afar, someone would mistake it for just a simple swirl. A simple, black swirl. But if you got closer, it would look much more different. There were silver stars around the swirl, with tiny light purple clouds.
An odd choice, Biana thought, but I accept it. They could use different colours, though. It'd match more.
"Hmm, what kind of symbol is this? It's not the Black Swan or the Neverseen . . . . Should I tell Fitz?" She paused, thinking that over. If I showed Fitz, he would go all protective-brother-mode and take the whole matter into his own hands, then Dex and I would get left behind again while everyone else risks their lives for something that's not even their business.
"So it's decided, then . . . I won't tell Fitz."
Biana struggled to open the box. There was a large grey lock on the front with a note made out of parchment that read PASSWORD REQUIRED. "Password? What password? Underneath the note, there was some code that needed to be filled out. Biana noted that there were four digits that had to be replaced. But with what?
Biana looked around her room. Maybe they left clues that led to the password? Biana stood up, being mindful of her injured foot and avoided any little trinkets on the floor.
She looked behind her beige nightstand, she looked in her dresses in her walk-in-closet, and even in her bed. But they wouldn't be that dumb to hide something in her bed, as she's sleeping in it.
Suddenly, Biana heard footsteps. She snatched the box from the floor and turned invisible. What was I thinking? She thought. Oh well. No turning back now.
A figure walked in her room. She had long luscious chocolate brown hair that was intricately braided into a stunning French braid that rolled down her shoulder. She also had very noticeable light blue eyes, that shone even lighter in the sunlight.
Biana's mother, Della, strolled into the room casually, looking around for Biana. Her piercing blue eyes darted around the room, until they eventually landed on Biana, hence the fact that she was hidden.
"Biana, come out," Della said with a sigh. "I can see you, you know?"
Biana gaped at her mother. After all the practice with her Vanisher ability, her mother can still see her? "How?" Biana asked, becoming visible.
"You'll learn eventually," Della replied with a wink. "Now, what's that box you're holding?"
Biana held up the box higher, eyeing the intricate designs on the box. Anything that could give her a hint as to what the password was. "I'd answer any questions you have, but I don't even know what this is," Biana shrugged. "I found it this morning on the floor. There's a little sign on it that says, PASSWORD REQUIRED."
Della nodded, pausing to take in the new information. "Have you told Fitz?" She asked her daughter calmly.
"No!" Biana protested. "Don't tell him!"
"Why not?" Della questioned, her bright smile turning into a frown.
"This is my mystery to solve. Every time Sophie almost dies, or someone tries to kill us, Fitz always tries to solve it himself," Biana insisted, then quietly added, "And then I'm left out again."
"But Biana," Della tried to reason, "weren't you the one who stopped Vespera?"
"But that was just one time. Well, I'm sure I've done more than that, but I wanna try this on my own. I'll tell Fitz if it doesn't work out." Biana sighed, unfortunately, unprepared for what happened next.
Fitz appeared at the doorway, a frown on his face. "Tell me what?"
So this might be longer than I thought. . . but it'll explain a lot, (I hope!).
