Lilly was getting ready in her room. She looked at herself once more in the mirror. The dress unluckily didn't hide her wound in the arm. "You look beautiful," she heard Steve said from behind her. She looked at him in the mirror and noticed him coming closer to her.
He wrapped his arms around her and turned her to him. He looked at her from her head to her feet and smiled. She wrapped her hands around his neck and gave him a kiss. "I love you," she said as she looked him directly in his eyes. "I love you too," he said and kissed her once more.
"As much as I hate to break this, we have a party we need to be at," she said and put her hands away from him. "Then we should leave right away."
——— at the party ———
"Hello, fiery woman and the running man," Sam said as he noticed them. "Sam," Steve said to him. They hugged each other. "I'll leave you guys alone and head towards Thor and Tony," Lilly said. "Wait for me there," Steve told her and she nodded.
Well, you know, the suit can take the weight, right? So I take the tank, fly it right up to the General's palace, drop it at his feet, I'm like, "Boom! You looking for this?"," Rhodey told them. Tony, Thor and Lilly looked at each other and then back at Rhodey. ""Boom! Are you looking..." Why do I even talk to you guys? Everywhere else that story kills." "That's the whole story?" Thor asked him and Lilly nudged him in the ribs. "Yeah, it's a War Machine story." "Well, it's very good then," he said as he glanced at Lilly, "It's impressive." "Quality save."
"So, no Pepper? She's not coming?" Rhodey asked Tony. "No." "Hey, what about Jane? Where are the ladies, gentlemen?" Maria asked them. "Well, Miss Potts has a company to run." "Yes, I'm not even sure what country Jane's in. Her work on the convergence has made her the world's foremost astronomer." Thor added, praising Jane. "And the company that Pepper runs is the largest tech conglomerate on earth. It's pretty exciting." "There's even talk of Jane getting a... um, uh... Nobel prize," Thor said proudly. "Jeez guys, someone is being competitive," Lilly said and looked at Maria, who pressed her lips together and rose her brows. "Excuse me, but who out of three of us, is dating someone SMART?" Lilly was taken aback. "Are you saying Pepper and Jane are smart, while Steve isn't?" She asked Tony back. "I'm just saying that sometimes he doesn't make a smart choice," he said and sipped on his drink. "And Pepper always does?" Tony looked away.
"Yeah, they...they must be busy because they'd hate missing you guys get together," Maria said and mocked a cough, "Testosterone! Oh, excuse me." "Want a lozenge?" Rhodey asked her. "Um-hmm."
"Let's go." With that they left them alone. "Jane's still the best," said Thor and with that Tony walked away."Tell me, how are you?" Thor asked Lilly as he leaned on the counter. "Honestly? I feel weird," she said and sipped on her drink. Thor tilted his head. "Can I say something weird," he asked her. "Sure." "You look like someone I knew from the past." Lilly smiled at him. "You said that before." "I know, but I can't stop thinking about the resemblance," he said and gulped down the whole drink. "Come on, I see your extremely smart boyfriend over there." Both of them walked towards where Steve and other older men were.
"Captain Rogers!" Thor said as he greeted Steve. "Thor, Lilly," Steve said. Lilly walked over to Steve and he put his arm around her waist. "I have something for you," Thor said and pulled out a small metal thing. "I gotta have some of this," said one of the older men as Thor started pouring the liqour into two glasses. "Oh, no, no, no. See this, this was aged for a thousand years, in the barrels built from the wreck of Brunhilde's fleet, it's not meant for mortal men," he said and handed on glass to Steve. Steve looked at his drink. "I want to try it as well," Lilly said. "I don't think it's a smart idea, but if you really want to try it, go ahead," he said and offered her his glass. She took it from his hand and smelled it. "Smells good," she said and took one sip, "tastes even better." "You shouldn't drink it. You're going to feel like you drank a thousand Martinis." Thor said.
Steve looked at Lilly. "Are you feeling sick?" She shook her head. "Nope," she said. Thor shrugged. "Then you really are a strong woman," he said and poured some of his drink to a man, who wanted to try it as well. Steve kissed Lilly on the side of her head. "For what did I deserve this?" "Oh, nothing. I just wanted to kiss you, so I did," Steve said and smiled. "Then kiss me for real," she said and closed her eyes as Steve gave her a kiss. "I'll head down to the couch where the others are," Lilly said and left Steve and Thor alone.
Later, all of the Avengers were gathered around the table. "But, it's a trick!" Clint said. All of them were discussing about Mjölnir, Thor's hammer. "Oh, no. It's much more than that," Thor said. "Uh, "Whosoever be he worthy shall haveth the power!"," Clint joked and said in a deep voice, "Whatever man! It's a trick." "Well please, be my guest." "Come on," Tony said. "Really?" Barton asked and Thor said, "Yeah!"
Barton got up and stopped in front of the hammer. "Clint, you've had a tough week, we won't hold it against you if you can't get it up," Tony said to him. "You know I've seen this before, right?" Clint said and tried to lift the hammer, but failed. "I still don't know how you do it," he said laughing. "Smell the silent judgment?" Tony asked him. "Please, Stark, by all means," Clint said and Tony got up. "Never one to shrink from an honest challenge," he added. "Here we go," Nat said. "It's physics," Stark added. "Physics!" Bruce said in a mocking manner. Tony grasped Thor's hammer. "Right, so, if I lift it, I...I then rule Asgard?" He asked Thor. "Yes, of course." "I will be re-instituting Prima Nocta," he said and tried to lift the hammer, but he failed. "I'll be right back."
Tony returned with his hand in his armour and tried to lift it over and over again. Later Rhodey joined him. Both of them pulled on the hammer. "Are you even pulling?" Rhodey asked him. "Are you on my team?" "Just represent! Pull!" "Alright, let's go!" Both of them pulled on the hammer.
Later Banner tried to lift the hammer, but as he failed he roared trying to change into the Hulk. Everyone looked at him warily except Nat, who grinned.
Steve walked to it and rolled up his sleeves. "Let's go, Steve, no pressure," said Tony. "You can do it, sweetheart!" Lilly cheered for him. He winked at her grasped Thor's hammer. He pulled and managed to budge it a little, making Thor straighten his face. At the end he failed at lifting it, and this made Thor laugh with relief.
"Widow?" Bruce asked Nat. "Oh, no no. That's not a question I need answered. Perhaps Lilly should try," she said and took a sip of her drink. "The same answer as you," she said and leaned onto Steve. "All deference to the man who wouldn't be king, but it's rigged," Stark said. "You bet your ass," Clint said back to him. "Steve, he said a bad language word," Maria said to Steve. "Did you tell everyone about that?" Steve asked Tony, who ignored him.
"The handle's imprinted, right? Like a security code. "Whosoever is carrying Thor's fingerprints" is, I think, the literal translation?" Tony asked Thor. "Yes, well that's, uh, that's a very, very interesting theory. I have a simpler one," he said and got up. He lifted the hammer and flipped it. "You're all not worthy." Everyone disagreed and chuckled at his comment. Not a second after that a loud screeching noise is causing everyone to cover their ears. The let their hands down when it stopped. "what the hel was that?" Lilly asked
"Worthy... No... How could you be worthy? You're all killers," a robot said. Everyone got on their feet, Steve put a hand in front of Lilly.
"Tony,.." Lilly said and gulped.
