"deep in my heart, I know that it's over"

Hello my fellow readers.

I'm back, finally, with the second and final part of 'fair game'. I again apologize for taking so long but this past week I have been working so much! Like, much more than I had in the past so I've just been so incredibly busy. But I made sure to get this out to you all.

So, enjoy!

Refresher: Shawn asked you to spend some time with him while at the fair and to enjoy the fireworks later on in the evening.

Standing before him, a smile on his lips and a strand of his golden hair by his right temple, my heart beats hard in my chest as I speak.

"I'd love that." I say, my voice above a whisper. Warmth spreads through my body as he lets out a relieved laugh.
"Great! That's great." He says gently, composing himself. "With the way things began, I thought you'd want nothing to do with me." He confesses. I shake my head with a smile.

"I was scared of the ferris wheel breaking down but I wasn't scared of you. Bare in mind that you were a complete stranger but so far," I smirk. "You're not that bad." He smiles widely as I inhale a shaky breath.

"Same with you." We both smile and stand in silence, both of our faces red and I'm sure his heart was beating as hard as mine. Thankfully, our friends came to the rescue.

"Okay, now you both go." Says Mack in a voice used to talk to a child. She pushes me towards Shawn and nods at me. "Go have fun. Not too much fun!" She warns with a smile.

"Oh hush, Mack." Says Rina, shaking her head and giving me her attention. "Do whatever you want. But, be safe." She realises what she says and quickly clarifies. "As in around the fair. Duh." She awkwardly laughs it off as Shawn laughs.

"Don't worry, I have some ideas of what we could do." Shawn rubs his hands together and I eye him suspiciously.
"Okay, well, while you're both out not having too much fun, Mack and I will get to know Shawn's friends." Says Rina as Mack nods.

"Knock yourself out. I told them you girls might go over and see them. They're nice, don't worry." Says Shawn, looking over his shoulder to see his friend all still heavily focused on the basketball game. "And very determined." He adds with a laugh.

"Doesn't matter!" Says Mack hurriedly. "You guys go!" She shoves me again and I swat away her hand. "While I show them who's boss." Cracking her knuckles, Mack saunters over. "Moving over boy's, the master is here."

"And I'm going to make sure she doesn't cause trouble. Bye!" Rina waves happily and trots over to join Mack and the others with her brightly coloured drink in her hand, already half empty.

Now just Shawn and I, I turn to him. Awaiting for something to either talk about or do.
"Um," Begins Shawn, looking around. He checks his phone with a nod. "We still have an hour until the fireworks, so I guess we can play some games or go on more rides?" He suggests.

"No rides." I say quickly. "After what happened last time, I want my feet firmly on the ground."
"Good call." He says as I laugh. "Come on."

Leading me through the fair grounds, I soak in the yearly festivities that bring our town together. Smiling at a girl screaming with delight at the surprise of a large toy, I notice a couple standing together, swaying to the music as their eyes gaze into each other's and then I see my dad.
