Elliot is already gone to class when I wake up on Tuesday morning. Usually, he woke me up to say goodbye but last night Leah wouldn't stay asleep no matter what I did. I had probably only fallen asleep when he woke up to leave.
I roll over towards my nightstand and grab my phone, opening our text thread and sending him a quick good morning text before I climb out of bed.
I walk over to Leah's crib to check on her and after brushing back her curls and placing a quick kiss to the top of her head I walk out of our room to go and brew some coffee. Exhausted wasn't a strong enough word to describe how I felt today.
I lean against the counter, scrolling through my social networks while I wait for the coffee pot to beep and it occurs to me that I should probably call Jason to discuss the plans that Elliot and I had made last night since they did indeed involve him.
I yawn, dialing his number as I reach up to retrieve a mug for my coffee. He picks up on the fourth ring. "Yes?" he asks as a way of greeting and I laugh.
"Is that the way you greet all the ladies?" I ask teasingly, grabbing the pot of coffee as it's loud beeping rings through the kitchen.
"Only the ones I messed around with in high school and managed to get pregnant" he replies with a laugh. "What's up Molls?"
"It's actually about our little one; well the holidays surrounding her" I clarify. "Me and Elliot were talking last night and we came up with an idea that I wanted to run by you."
"Okay" he says as I pour myself my coffee and take a long sip. "What were you thinking?"
"Well first I think it's only fair that we start with Thanksgiving since it is coming up soon" I begin. "What were you planning on doing?"
"I'm just going to my parent's place to eat" he says nonchalantly. "What about you? Are you spending it with your mom and that new boyfriend of hers?"
I laugh. "I wish. No I'm uh spending it with Elliot's family."
"Yikes. I'm sure that'll be fun. On the bright side though, since you aren't sleeping with the guy you don't have to worry about making any surprise pregnancy announcements before the big day." I roll my eyes.
"My teenage pregnancy is enough" I reply honestly, taking another sip of my coffee. "Not to mention the fact that I don't want to get married in the church or that I've straddled third base with Elliot."
"You're from two different worlds. That's what Elliot likes about you."
"I know. I just wish it were what his family liked. Hell, I wish they liked anything about me" I scoff, running my fingers through my hair in exhaustion. "But back onto the subject of Thanksgiving-."
"I can take Leah" he volunteers. "It sounds like you're gonna be stressed and I doubt running after our little monster is going to make that any easier. Besides, my family would love to see her and I'm sure Elliot's family could manage without." He wasn't wrong. "And next year you can have her. We'll alternate."
A smile pulls at my lips. "Okay" I agree easily. "Now, Christmas. I would like to have Christmas Eve because it's when my family celebrates but I was thinking that perhaps Christmas Day could alternate like Thanksgiving."
"Okay but when do I pick up her up? I don't want to throw off the illusion of Santa Claus."
I chuckle, taking my coffee to the living room to sit down. "Well, I was thinking that she could come with Elliot and I to church in the morning and then perhaps you'd be interested in coming over to watch her open presents."
