Shawn's POV
I had finally fell into a deep sleep dreaming of Mellie and how much I needed her. Was I crazy for moving so fast? Is there such a thing as love at first sight?
Why all off a sudden she was so against me? Was she bipolar? Was I bipolar? The first night I met her, she flirted with me and got into a car with me. You would think that if she wasn't interested, she would have ignored me when I came to talk to her.
There was this annoying but familiar sound causing me to wake slightly from my dream. Damn phone, just as I was getting comfortable. I turned over to face where the buzzing was coming from.
My eyes shot open. Mellie was reaching for my phone.
"Mel what are-" I stared as she snatched the phone from the table.
She held it to her chest and looked toward the door and then back at me.
"Mel, let's be reasonable about this. Give me back the phone." I said, standing up and gesturing towards the phone.
Mellie looked to the door and without hesitation, she took off running. I stared as she fumbled with the lock. Wait, what was I doing? Shaking myself out of it, I chased after her. She got the door open and took off down the hall. I was on the 65th floor and I doubt she was going to try and take the stairs down.
I ran in the opposite direction leading right to the elevators.
"I'll wait here." I smirked to myself, crossing my arms and leaning against the wall.
Mellie's POV
I fumbled with the lock for a good minute before Shawn started to advance on me. I yanked the door open and took a sharp let. I ran as fast as my legs could take me. There was no way he was going to catch me. He had just gotten up. I don't care how physically fit you are, it's nearly impossible to just wake up and start sprinting.
I took a right down another hall and just kept running. The foot steps behind me stopped so I slowed my pace. Had he given up? Was I in the clear? I shrugged my shoulders and looked down at the phone.
"Missed Call from Kendall"-7:23 am
Who was Kendall and why would she be calling Shawn so early? The phone started to vibrate and Kendall's name came up on the screen. Should I answer it?
I slowly slid my finger to the answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"Um who the fuck is this?" she asked, clearly upset.
"Who is this?" I asked, trying to get the subject off of me.
"I asked first! Now who are you?" she screamed.
"Terribly sorry, I must go. Bye." I said, swiftly hanging up the phone in a panic.
The phone itself was locked so it was useless to me. I set it down in front of someone's door. They would get it back to him eventually. He had so much money anyway so he can just replace it just like he'll be replacing my still missing phone.
I came to the end of the hallway and had to make a choice. There was a sign with two arrows. One pointing to the stairs off to the left, the other pointing towards the elevator off to the right. I walked towards the door leading to the stairs and peaked my head out to see if there was anything that could tell me what floor I was on.
65th floor? Really? I couldn't get down to the lobby before the elevator could with that many stairs. I had to risk it and go towards the elevators. Taking a deep breath, I took off running in the direction of the elevators.
The end of the hallway was nearing and I could hear the sound of the elevators. I was so close!
I rounded the corner and came to a halt.
There he was.
"You actually think I was going to chase after you?" he asked, smirking.
I took a few steps back and looked for a way out.
"Oh good luck with the 65 flights of stairs." he laughed hysterically. "Now where is my phone?"
"Who's Kendall?" I shot back quietly.
"What did you say?" he asked, stepping towards me.
"Nothing. Nevermind. I'm sorry."
"Don't bring her up ever again." he snapped back at me, getting really close to my face.
"Can I pl..." I started before trailing off.
There was no use in my asking over and over again. Shawn had his own agenda and he was going to just let me leave. A single tear rolled down my cheek.
"What changed?" he asked, crossing his arms again.
I opened my mouth but nothing came out.
"Did I do something? Did I read into you wrong? Are you not attracted to me?"
I opened my mouth again but I couldn't process words. We stood there in silence.
"This is just happening... really fast." I finally managed to say.
"But why is that a bad thing?" he asked as anger formed behind his eyes.
My hands were so numb from clenching onto my dress so tight.
"Answer me." he demanded.
"I have a life back home. I can't just drop what I have back there for some guy I just met." I quietly confessed. "My parents have a plan for me. They are threatening to cut me out of the picture if I don't go through with it."
Shawn looked at me in complete shock.
"I can take care of you. You don't need their money. I have all the money in the world."
"It's not just money. They are my parents and I love them." I said, taking a step back to gain space.
"They treat you like a child Mellie! You're an adult and your mother still dresses you! They don't love you! If they had the chance, they would kick you out but then they wouldn't have a little puppet to play with!" he yelled, closing the gap between us. "Some day you're going to need to grow up."
I was taken back by his harsh words. Everything he was saying was true but it was just hard to swallow.
"There is someone who is waiting to marry me. That's why I was at the party last night. His name is Waylon and he seems like he could be an okay husband." I said, lying to myself to help soften the blow.
Shawn rolled his eyes and turned away from me.
"That Waylon will chew you up and spit you right back out. Trust me on this one hun." he chucked.
"I just have a lot to think about. It has nothing to do with you."
"Then tell me, what is it really?" he asked, turned slightly towards me.
He was so wrong for me, it felt too right. Every time he touched me, there were sparks. He would look at me and I felt like I could just faint. He was rude and cruel and everything I've been taught to stay away from. That was what made me want him more.
"It's you." I burst into tears.
"W-what?"
"I either need to be with you or without you. There is no inbetween." I cried. "I can't have my life and be with you."
Out of shock, he slumped down into the the chair across from the elevator. He placed his head in his hands, causing his hair to cover his face.
"I don't want to start something and then be ripped away from something I care for so much."
Shawn stood up and stood right infront of me. He wiped my tears away with his thumbs and rested his forehead against mine.
"I'll never let anyone take you away from me." he said grabbing my face and crashing his soft lips into mine.
I tangled my hands in his hair and stepped closer to him. He slowly pulled his lips from mine. Softly kissing my forehead and smiling.
"I just need sometime to get my things and tell my parents."
"Take all the time you need, as long as you promise you'll come back to me." he said, intertwining our fingers.
He rested his forehead against mine again.
"Anyways, sneaking around will be hot." he chucked, while sliding his free hand down my back.
"Shawn!" I shrieked and playfully hitting his chest. He grabbed my face again and pulled me into for an even deeper kiss.
The elevator doors dinged open.
"Shawn!?" screamed a .
"Kendall?" Shawn asked, quickly turning his head towards her.
