Eight

The bellhop carried my bags up to my room and I tipped him generously. I stepped into the . It was a decent size. I really didn't need anything bigger than this since it was just me.

My feet ached from all the walking I had done. I wasn't used to wearing flats with no arch. Sitting down on the couch, I looked at my phone. I was so tempted to just give in and call Shawn back. I stood my group and turned off my phone. I was going to sleep alone tonight and if I still wanted him in the morning, I would leave my life behind for good and move on with Shawn.

Eight hours passed by as I sat doing nothing. I finally decided to order room service and watch some movies. I ordered a few on tv and sat in bed, slowly munching on my dinner. My mind wandered off to the thought of Shawn again.

Damn it Mel, one night thinking about anything else wasn't that hard.

I pulled out my laptop and logged into skype. It was time to come clean to Nat. She was either going to be super happy for me and super confused about why I would leave my parents for Shawn.

I clicked call and my computer started ringing.

"Hello love!" Nat answered, adjusting her laptop camera.

"I miss you so much!" I whined, blowing kisses to her.

"I miss you too! New York is so lonely without you!"

"Well I was thinking about visiting around Christmas time. We could get a little tree and celebrate together!" I suggested, making her smile.

"My god, please do!" she started. "Wait, where are you?"

I bit my lip and picked at my sweater.

"A hotel."

"Uh why? What's wrong with your room?" she asked, sitting up.

"I moved out."

She screamed with excitement.

"Melody Hutson is finally an adult!" she yelled, jumping up and dancing around.

I laughed and covered my mouth.

"What made you decide to move out? I need details!" she begged, sitting back down.

I rolled my eyes and proceeded to tell her about how I went to the gala and Shawn was there. I spent three hours describing how I felt and how I was just so attracted to him. She was in complete shock.

"So I decided to just follow my stupid young heart and go for it." I said, finishing my story.

Natasha was completely silent.

"I have one question."

"Yeah?" I asked, biting my nail.

"I'm the maid of honor, right?"

"NATASHA!" I yelled.

We both burst out laughing.

"But seriously! The way you get when you talk about him, I can just tell that you two are soul mates!"

"Shut up! Oh, did you hear anything back about the Angel fashion show?" I asked, hoping for a positive answer.

"They got back to me." she said, her face shifting from complete happiness to sadness.

"Natasha I'm so-"

"I'm in! They want me to walk in the show!" she screamed.

"I'm so proud of you! I knew you could do it!"

"Thanks hun!" she started. "It's getting late, I'm gonna head to bed, another early morning, blah! But you better text me and tell me all about you and Shawn! Got it!"

"Got it."

We said our goodbyes and ended the call. It was only 11:30 pm but I was getting tired. I changed into my pajamas, turned on another movie. I cuddled and pillow wishing it was Shawn. Slowly but surely, I drifted off to sleep.

The Next Morning

For breakfast, I decided to go down to the dining room and sit amongst people. I needed some social interaction. I got , packed up my things, alerted the front desk that I would be leaving after my meal and took off for food.

I was sitting near a window overlooking the pool.

"Oh my god!" a girl screamed from across the room.

She ran up to my table, clutching her phone.

"It's you!" she said, jumping around.

"Sorry, what?" I asked, very confused.

"Can I get a picture with you?" she begged.

"No, you can't actually."

"Damn! Kendall was right! You are a bitch!" she shot back at me.

My mouth opened in awe.

"Kendall said what?"

"Oh that's right, you're slow." she rolled her eyes. "I can't believe you broke up Shendall!"

What that fuck was a Shendall?

"I think you have the wrong person."

"You're that homewrecker Melody!" she said, showing me Kendall's last tweet.

"Gotch. Well I'm sorry to break it to you but I'm not with Shawn, nor have I ever been with him."

"What about when you guys kissed at the hotel?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"That was a misunderstanding. I really don't need to explain this to you. I would like to enjoy my breakfast in peace. It was really nice meeting you."

She scoffed, typed something on her phone, snapped a picture of me and ran away. Some people are just crazy.

The waiter finally came over and took my order. She returned shortly after with a steaming hot plate of food. After the girl left, I wasn't really hungry. Her harsh words made me lose my appetite.

I paid for my meal and made my way to the valet desk to request my car.

"You bags are being loaded in right now Ms. Hutson, feel free to take a seat, we'll get you when it's ready." a nice women said, gesturing to the couches.

I took a seat and retrieved my phone from my purse and proceeded to turn it on. 10 missed calls from Shawn. Oops. I dialed Shawn's number and waited for an answer.

"I've been calling you all morning." he whined. "Why didn't you pick up?"

"I was eating breakfast."

"Where are you? I'll come get you." he demanded.

"I'm fine. I promise. I'm leaving the hotel in 5 minutes and then I'll come right over."

"Let me just pick you up." he said as I heard him picking up his keys in the background.

I didn't mind that he was so assertive and protective. It was kinda sexy.

"Shawn, I'm fine."

"Don't start with me, where are you?" he was starting to get angry.

You see, the thing I don't like about Shawn was his temper. In the short amount of time I've spent with him, I've learned that he is a hot head and anything can set him off. Shawn loved to fight, especially when he knew he would end up being the right one.

"I'll see you in 20 minutes. Please just calm down. Goodbye"

"Melody, I'm starting to get-" he started, raising his voice.

"Say goodbye or I'll hang up the phone on you."

"Goodbye." he said reluctantly.

I hung up the phone with a smile. Nat wanted updates so I thought I better check in with her.

"I'm about to go to Shawn's place... -Mel 11:02am"

"OMG! Have fun ;) -Nat 11:02 am"

"I don't what to do when I see him! Do I hug him? Or like kiss him? Agggg! -Mel 11:30am"

"Go for it bae, have some fun! Follow your stupid young heart! -Nat 11:04am"

She always knew what to say. I smiled one last time at the text and put my phone away. A valet service employee approached me and handed me my keys.

"Is there anything else I can do for you ma'am?" he asked.

I shook my head no and handed him a tip. He smiled and thanked me. I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed outside.

"MELLIE OVER HERE!" a reporter yelled.

Cameras flashed and I was surrounded. What was it they wanted? I pushed my way to my car and got inside as fast as I possibly could.

They continued to yell my name and flash pictures of me. Was it really that interesting to take pictures of me struggling to get into my car? I seriously needed to get out of there.

I pulled out of the hotel driveway and turned to make my way to Shawn's place. So many thoughts were racing through my head. I knew I couldn't stay in a hotel for the rest of my life and Shawn's current apartment was too small to accommodate two people comfortably.

It didn't feel right just moving in with Shawn. On the same hand, it didn't feel right leaving my parents in the dust and living alone. After all, I had just left them for Shawn. The thought of the ambulance pulling into my driveway flashed into my head. I wonder if my parents were okay. They hadn't called me or tried to come and get me.

Maybe they were starting to come around to the idea of having an adult daughter and not just a puppet.

Before I knew it, I pulled up to Shawn's apartment. I parked across the street in an overnight parking lot. I walked into the building only to be met by the doorman.

"Where are you heading to ma'am?" he asked.

"65th floor."

"What's the apartment number?" he asked, crossing my arms as if I was just a fan of Shawn's.

I didn't know that apartment number.

"I... I don't know actually."

He rolled his eyes.

"You know you can't just walk in here and expect me to let you go up. I know Mr. Mendes is an attractive young man but I can't just let fans go up." he said, gesturing to the door.

"I'm not a fan." I started. "I mean I am, kinda. I am quite fond of him but I was here last night. Can't you just call him and ask him.?"

"I'll give it a try, but I hope you're not wasting my time."

He walked behind the desk and flipped through a large binder to find Shawn's number. He dialed the phone and put it to his ear.

"Hello Mr. Mendes, sorry to bother you but there is this girl here insisting she knows you. I've already told her to leave but she won't. Should I call the police?"

He went quiet as he listened to Shawn.

"She says her name is..." he started, looking at me for my name.

"Mellie." I said, picking at my finger nails.

"Mellie." he repeated into the phone.

His eyes suddenly got wide.

"I am so sorry Mr. Mendes. I'll add her to the list of guest and send her right up. I am so terribly sorry. Have a nice day."

He hung up the phone and turned to me.

"I'm sorry ma'am. Let me add you to this list. Full name please?"

I gave him my information and accepted his apology. He gave me Shawn's apartment number and sent me up to the 65th floor.

The ride up was my absolute worst nightmare. It was hell. My mind raced as I started to panic. Had I just made the biggest mistake of my life? I kept thinking of my mother and father's faces when I told them I was moving out. Was my mother right? Did I just like the mysterious boy who was bound to break my heart.

I looked down at my phone. It was constantly lighting up with Twitter since I had turned it on.

"Homewrecker"

"Slut"

"Whore"

Complete strangers listen to a girl who doesn't even know me. Kendall had been posting lies about me since I had left yesterday. I get that she was upset about the wedding but that had nothing to do with me. Okay, it had a little to do with me. I didn't intentionally take Shawn from her. Hell, I didn't take anything.

I made the choice to follow the sound of some music one night and he kissed me. I was stupid enough to try and run away with him that night. If we would have gotten out of the garage, my story would have ended there. He would have whisked me off my feet and taken me away to some tropical island where we would be tan all the time. We would have island babies and just live an easy life.

I closed my eyes at the thought of Shawn and I on an island. The sun hitting my skin and the sand between my toes. The sound of the ocean waves soothing me. Shawn by my side, everyday, with no parents, press or Kendall.

I quickly snapped back to reality. This wasn't a fairy tale, this was my life. Being disowned by my parents and running into the arms of a man I didn't know. The elevator ding for the 63rd floor and shortly after the 64th. I had to make a decision now.

"Ding"

65th floor.
