12 Weeks Later
Months flew by quickly. Shawn and I had continued to see Dr. Preston but we started to have less and less sessions. I had yet again another doctor's appointment to discuss my blood work but the result were inconclusive. Nat had forced her way into planning the baby shower.
"I'm so excited!" she shouted, running around the house, barking orders at the party crew.
I hated parties where I was the center of attention.
"How far along at you?" ask Nat.
"29 weeks, almost 7 months."
"When are you going to tell the world that you and Shawn have created the most beautiful baby ever?" she begged.
"We haven't talked about it. I just wanted to have the baby and be done with it." I joked, folding my laundry.
"Oh whatever. Stop folding and go get ready, the guest are going to be here soon!"
I put the clothes back into the basket and went up to the bedroom to get changed. Shawn was sitting on the corner chair, reading through work papers.
"Emmett called." Shawn blurted, not looking up from his work.
"What did he say?"
"Something about your show and how they won't be making a second season." he mumbled, shuffling papers.
I quickly spun around.
"What?"
Shawn continued to ignore me and skim his documents.
"Hello? Earth to Shawn!" I yelled, grabbing the papers from his hands. "They show is canceled?"
"I guess so." responded Shawn.
He grabbed the papers back and continued to work as if nothing had happened. The show being canceled wasn't a huge deal. Honestly, the script was the best and the only reason people tuned into the first few episodes was to see me, not to sound stuck up. The other actors were good but they were the type you'd find in a Lifetime movie where the mother kidnaps the neighbors baby.
I guess I was jobless now.
"I have to fly to London tonight." Shawn said, standing up and gathering his things.
"Are you going to be able to come to the party?"
"No." he coldly replied. "I need to go into the office for some meetings and then I have to leave."
"Alright."
Shawn started packing his luggage as I changed into my party .
"How long are you going to be gone for?" I asked, sitting on the bed.
"Not sure."
"Well can't you just stay until we open the letter?" I begged, grabbing his arm.
He pulled his arm away and continued to pack.
"No, I can't just stay. I have business in London."
"What if I got into early labor while you're gone?" I worried, placing one hand on my stomach.
"That won't happen."
"But what if it does?" I asked, following him around the room.
He turned toward me and put both of his hand on my shoulders.
"Stop worrying so fucking much and you'll be fine." replied Shawn.
"Please don't go." I begged, holding onto his arm.
"Melody, don't start." he demanded, walking away from me.
Something was seriously up with him and I wasn't going to let him ruin the day.
"I'm going to go enjoy the party. Have a nice trip."
I left the room before he could reply. Shawn is an adult, if he had to make random trips with no explanation, he could. I wasn't going to bitch about it. There was nothing I could do, he clearly already made up his mind. It's not like we were going to find out the gender of our baby or anything. He didn't tell me when he was going to be back so I guess I was decorating the nursery this weekend alone. Oh and I guess Nat was going to be my partner for my class tomorrow afternoon.
Guest started arriving and of course, they all asked about Shawn. Finally everyone was seated in a circle and the party games began.
There was guess the gender and write in names. Then Nat measured my stomach and the person who guesses closest was the winner. The last game was to guess what day and time the baby would be born. My due date was September 14th but the doctor said I would be lucky if I made it to the middle of August.
"Gift time!" Nat exclaimed, sitting next to me with a clipboard.
Nat's job was to keep track of everything I got and who it was from. Before we could start, Shawn finally came down the stairs.
"Just in time!" Nat cheered.
"Rain check."
He hurried over to me with his suitcase in hand.
"I'll call you when I land." he comforted, trying to kiss me on the lips.
I turned my head, forcing him to kiss my cheek. I stayed silent. Opening my big mouth and starting a fight was the last thing I wanted. Shawn said his goodbyes and rushed off.
"Where is he going?" one of Nat's friends asked.
"Sudden business trip."
Everyone shrugged it off and the gifts started. I hadn't purchased anything for the baby and the sight of all these tiny items made me even more nervous for my due date. I mostly had gotten clothing and other little items. A few people went the more expensive route and got me things like a baby monitor with a camera that connect to your phone or tablet. Another friend had gotten me this automatic rocking swing.
"Now for the big reveal!" Nat said, handing me the envelope.
"Maybe I should just wait and open it when Shawn get's back."
"Awe!" whined everyone.
"Oh just open it!" pushed Nat.
Shawn knew that the plan was to reveal it today so he can't get mad at me for going with what we talked about. In one swift movement, I ripped open the letter. My eyes scanned the few words on the page.
"It's a..."
