Chapter 4, The Forest

We made it to the forest. This was the only thing in between us and the fire temple. We began to walk inside the forest, but it was starting to get really foggy. 

" Okay everyone. Stay together, i don't want to get lost." I said.

Violet pulled out three flashlights and gave us each one. We then began walking. Every step we took, the fog got more dense. I could Barely see Alex, who was a few feet to my side, and Violet, who was a few feet in front of me. We kept walking when Alex said something.

" Uhhh guys, my flashlight went out."

I looked over to my side and I couldn't see his light. I looked around and Violet's light must have gone out as well. Then I heard footsteps. Someone was running towards me, and fast.

" Guys, stop fooling around."

The person was running faster. I pulled out my sword from my scabbard. I could hear the sound of bones rattling. I now saw a figure in the distance. Then I saw something that could be straight out of a book. A person holding a weapon, an axe. It came closer. Not a person, but a skeleton. The thing had metal chest plate, and there was a small painting of a skull on it. It brought it's axe up and swung down. I spun and dodged the attack. I turned around and saw it coming back, but then i saw Alex a couple feet behind the skeleton. He had his weapon in his hand and he threw it.  The double blade spun towards the skeleton and completely shattered it. Bones flew everywhere. Then Violet came out of nowhere running. 

" We have to get out of here." She said.

" My thoughts exactly!" I said. 

We ran, but we didn't even know which direction we were running in. The fog was starting to clear up. We started to see figures appear in the distance. It was an entire army of skeletons. Most of them were holding swords and bows, and most of them had chest plates and helmets. Arrows flew past us as we ran away from the group of skeletons. 

" I have an idea. Maybe we could..."

Violet was interrupted by the sound of more bones. Another group of skeletons appeared a few feet away from us. At least 20 of them.

"Where the hell did these things come from?" I asked

"I don't know, but we need to fight our way through," Violet said.

" Yep. Alex, take the left section, I'll take the right side, and violet take the middle section."

The skeletons had also split up. A group of six quickly surrounded me. I spun my sword and prepared for a fight. One skeleton threw his axe at me, and i dodged. I ran up to him first and i swung my sword at him and shattered him. I moved on to the one on his right. He attacked with his sword, and I brought mine up to deflect it. He then swung it at my legs, but i jumped to dodge it. When he had his back turned, I spun and kicked him onto the floor. Suddenly, another skeleton used his axe to knock my sword out of my hand. He and two other skeletons attacked. The first one swung his axe at my head, but I ducked. I spun and swept his legs and he fell. The skeleton fired several arrows at me. I grabbed the closest skeleton and spun him around. I advanced, using the skeleton as a shield for the arrows. Once i got close to the skeleton with the bow, i pushed the skeleton shield into him, knocking both of them on the floor. I finished up with the last skeleton and I ran towards Alex to help him. Then I saw something in the corner of my eye. Something shiny. Then I felt the dagger cut the top of my arm. I lost grip of my sword and fell. I lifted my head up, but I couldn't see clear because of the dirt in my eyes. I reached for my sword, but I saw it get kicked away by someone. I looked up and saw a skeleton, but it had four arms, a dagger in each hand. He wore a red and black chest plate and a red sash around his waist.  He brought a dagger to my head.

" Tell me where the sword is or watch your friends die," he said. 

"We don't even know each other and you're already threatening me?" I asked.

Then out of nowhere, Violet ran up to him and kicked him away. He slid back across the leaves and Alex threw his double scythe at the skeleton. Violet helped me back onto my feet. Alex twirled his blade and knocked one of the skeleton's daggers out of his hand.

" Daren, get to the temple, we'll meet you there," Violet said.

It seemed like they had the situation under control. I grabbed my sword and i ran. In the distance, I saw a faint orange glow. I was getting close but i wasn't going to get away easily. There were a few skeletons up ahead.  A skeleton with a sword ran towards me. If I'm going to kill a skeleton, might as well do with style. I jumped off a rock and did a 360-degree spin. I impaled the skeleton through its chest. 2 skeletons with bows began to fire arrows at me. I dodged an arrow and blocked the other with my sword. I ran up to one of them and knocked its bow out of its hand. I kicked it onto the ground. The other skeleton swung its bow at me. I ducked and swept its legs. Then I felt a punch in my back. I turned around and sliced the last skeleton in half. I looked towards the orange glow and saw the outline of a volcano in the distance. That was the place we were looking for.
