It All Began In Paris

Chapter 16

**Jenny's POV**

It was the day before I was leaving for California. Tony and Ziva were set to be my protection detail as that had been the plan since I had found out about the trip. But now, I wanted Jethro to come. William Decker had passed away a few days ago, he had been an agent that was on Jethro's team before the whole Paris situation had happened in 1999. The official report was saying that Decker had died of a heart attack but I wasn't so sure.

I wanted Jethro to come with me because although he had not been awfully close to Decker, I had been and I wanted my closest friend by my side when I attended his funeral. I also wanted Jethro there because if there was something fishy about Decker's death then; a) Jethro would be the best person to have protecting me and b) he would allow me to work with him to figure out what had really happened to Decker.

It was 9 o'clock and everyone had been at the office for a few hours and were getting on with work. Jethro's team didn't have a case yet and so I figured that now would be the best time to ask Jethro if he would come with me. If he did say yes, I knew I would need to have two people anyway, so I would pick Tobias to join my detail for the course of the trip.

I picked up my office phone and dialled the number for Jethro's desk. All I had to do was hit the number 1 because Jethro's desk is saved as number 1 on my speed dial for both my office phone and my cell.

"I need to see you in my office ASAP." I told him once he answered. He didn't say anything and just hung up. But that was what Jethro always did. I still knew that he was going to listen to me and come up to my office.

Then as expected, my office door flew open and in walked Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He hadn't really been into my office since he got back from his undercover assignment and I was gonna use that to get under his skin.

"Didn't your side chick teach you how to knock Gibbs?" I asked him with a scowl.

"Did you actually need something or not Director?" He asked me.

"I want you on my six as protection detail when I am in California. If you say yes, then I shall ask Tobias to join the detail also. So Gibbs, will you be my protection detail?" I asked him.

"No I won't. Someone needs to be here to look after Sophie and so that person will be me. If that is all then I will be going back downstairs."

"She can stay with the team. It's only a few days Jethro." I told him. I didn't want Sophie staying with Todd. We had broken up a few weeks ago due to us not wanting the same things. Todd wanted us to get married and have more children but I didn't and so I ended things with him. We agreed to still stay friends though.

"No Jen." Jethro told me and then left my office, shutting the door behind him on the way out.

"Bye mommy. See you in a week yeah?" Sophie said to me. Ziva, Tony and I were at the airport and we were getting on the plane in around half an hour. Jethro and Sophie had come to see me off.

"Yeah baby. See you then." I told her and hugged her tightly.

Then Jethro came over to me and hugged me. We had had no skin to skin contact in over 2 years and so this was unexpected. I hugged him back and then he pulled away. He kissed my forehead affectionately.

"Have a safe trip Jen. See you when you get back." He said to me.

"Yeah, see ya Jethro." I said to him.
