a/n: Hi! I just wanted to thank all of you for getting this book to #27 in the tag ‘pea’. Y’all are so amazing. Thank you guys so so much.
The sun shined through the sheer curtains. Rolling onto my side, Sweet Pea was sleeping next to me. We had moved in with each other over spring break.
Boxes littered the room and most of the hallway still. The house just started to feel like home.
Climbing from the bed, I slipped on a fresh pair of socks and made my way to the kitchen. Grabbing a pan from the island storage, I started to make breakfast. The flashing light of the home phone sidetracked me, causing me to grab it from the receiver. Punching in the passcode, I listened to the voicemails left.
The first one was from Betty.
“Hey M, I was just visited by the FBI. My mom was working with them to take down the farm. By the way, all the farmies are gone and they left Kevin. Just, you know what? Call me back.”
Flipping the egg before deleting the message and making a mental note that I needed to call her back later. Clicking on to the next message, Cheryl’s silky voice filled my left ear.
“Hello Mina, I was calling to let you know I am very sorry I did not listen to you and Betty, they gave me my brother back and my vision was clouded. Toni, the twins and I are all good, and we cannot thank you two enough.”
I deleted the message and placed the phone back onto the receiver. I moved to the small coffee pot next to the microwave. Placing a K-pod into the pod holder, I placed a mug under the opening. While the coffee was made, I finished the eggs and toast for Pea, before popping toast in the toaster for me.
The noise of walking echoed down the wood hallway. Walking towards the doorway, I met Sweet Pea. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I used my other hand to brush his hair from his face.
“Good morning, Love.” I said walking from him.
He followed behind me, sitting down on the black bar stool on the other side of the island. I placed his plate in front of him, handing him a fork as I did so. He smiled towards me as I butter my toast. This was what I wanted for the rest of my life.
Finishing the toast and handing Pea the coffee mug from the coffee pot, I watched as he prepared it. He sipped from the hot mug, before placing it in front of his plate. I walked back to the room in bliss, the mornings here are so calm, I’d never leave my house.
The landlord, Ms.McDain, had called. She was a nicer older woman, maybe in her late 70’s. Pea sometimes does house chores for her while I pick up her Groceries once a week. She’s like the grandmother I always wished I had.
Unlocking my phone, I called her back quickly, concerned something bad had happened. No one had answered the phone, alarming me. I noted to visit her home later. Changing from my night clothes into day clothes.
I slipped on my rain boots, before grabbing my laptop, my backpack, and my phone. Sweet Pea came into the room, asking me where I was going.
“Ms.McDain had called me, and when I called her back, she had not answered, so I am going to see if she’s ok. I’ll meet you at the work cite for lunch.”
He nodded before I walked from the room.
“I LOVE YOU, BABY”
“LOVE YOU TOO.”Squishing around in the wet mud, I managed to make it to the truck without slipping. Placing my bag on the passenger floor board, I started the truck. Ms.McDain didn’t live far from us, maybe 5 minutes. Finding her one room cottage was easy, the clearing of the tree’s made things easier.
