"You're looking like a pitiful zombie, girl!" Leo said as he stare at me like I'm going to die at any second now.
Can a zombie even look pitiful?
I sighed. "Thanks Leo. That makes me feel so much better."
"Sweetheart—lovely—my beautiful baby in the whole wide world— I'm only saying this because it's true. What happened to the whole 'I'm going to talk to them first?' You gotta tell them, will you please get that thought inside of your thick skull?"
"I get it!" I exclaimed frustratingly. "But I actually found something!" I sound like a mad scientist trying to prove something that other people won't even believe.
Leo sighed, propping his chin on the palm of his hand, looking at me blankly.
I huffed. "C'mon Leo. Don't look at me like that. If you can't take me seriously then I'm going to talk to Hayley."
"Nice try, but Hay's not here. She's at home, having a rough day because of her cold."
I sighed, looking down on my hands. "I found out that this person's real, Leo. Her name was Lydia. I don't know if she's alive or what her relationship is to my family, it's been a rough week for me, Leo."
"And I know that. I don't really know if knowing the answers will get you some rest but the sooner the better. We can't handle seeing you look like this." Leo said in a soft and quiet way. Something that made me feel a little better. Only slightly better though.
I understand what he's trying to say, I really do, but when I remember the words Xendrix told me, I just remember the fear dancing in his eyes. How desperate he sounded when he asked me to wait for the answer and then my mind thought that maybe this person was important to them. Maybe this person was someone who had been a big part of their lives. But it's all just maybe.
The other part of me is shouting that I won't be able to handle the truth. I still want to know though, no doubt about it, but whenever I ask one of them, they always have this 'you're not supposed to remember' and I feel stupid because I feel like I should remember what I'm not supposed to remember.
I just want to know. The strong urge to know is just making it harder for me to do anything that could make my head rest.
Stupid! Moron! Stupid!
I'm the only one who's making this a big deal. I'm already an eavesdropper, then I'm probably snooping in their business. It's not even a big deal and it's not supposed to bother me like this.
Stupid idiot!
"I know." I answered Leo sullenly. "They're scared too, Leo. I just don't know what to do."
"They're keeping a secret for a reason, babe. Keeping a secret is the same as lying but maybe they're doing it because it was supposed to keep you away from something."
I sighed again. Maybe he's right. I know that this girl is dangerous (in my dreams, I suppose) and maybe that's what they're doing.
"Look out. Gab's heading our way." Leo whispered. He doesn't sound like a fanboy like he usually is whenever one of the famous, cool kids of the school comes near us.
And when did he start calling Gabriel 'Gab'?
"Hey, Leo." Gabriel greeted then I could feel his eyes burning my skin.
"Hey Little Stones."
Oh great.
I groaned and glared at him. "What happened to calling me by my first name?"
