The gates were closed. We stopped in front of them in silence. Mekhi called through, not saying a word to me or Ash. Ash's hand was linked with my mind, his grip was so tight I wondered if I had lost blood flow to my fingers.
I didn't even listen to Mekhi. I was more concerned for Ash, and how he felt right now. I couldn't even imagine half the pain Ash was in right now. Maybe I had lost my family, but they were never there in the first place, and they are still alive anyway. But Archer... he had always been there for Ash. Since the very day Ash was born. And now he was gone, maybe forever. I really hope it wasn't forever.
The gates creaked open the slightest amount, only just enough for the three of us to slip through. It closed quickly behind us. Mekhi murmured a thanks to the group of men who were waiting for us on the other side – I assumed the must be the guards. The wore clothes that reminded me of Archer's get-up; green and beige clothes that camouflaged, metal armour on top. Except they were missing the flowing cape.
Ash and I followed Mekhi as he led us through the empty streets of Ganyan. How late was it exactly? I had imagined it having a busy and colourful nightlife, but instead... it was deadly dark and quiet. I didn't even see a single person on the streets.
"Ash, you're now Cody. I'm Corrin. Isaak... you can stay Isaak. No one knows you anyway." Mekhi muttered, and I realised we were standing in front of an inn, I guess. The windows were blurry and dark. But I could see the light seeping through. The music and chatter were faint too, but at least it was there.
I glanced up at the sign above the door as we walked towards the entry. I immediately stopped when I saw it, causing both Ash and Mekhi to turn and look at me. The Bad Omen. I knew it was just a name, but something about it's timing creeped my out.
Mekhi followed my gaze, and then sighed. "You've got to be kidding me. How fucking stupid are you, Isaak? You've gone from flat out denying our existence to being incredibly superstitious. It's a fucking name you dipshit."
"Mekhi, stop it." Ash muttered, too tired to raise his voice. "C'mon Isaak, we need to stay somewhere." Ash held out his hand for me, and Mekhi stared at it as if it was the most disgusting thing he'd ever seen. I took it, and he led me inside, in front of Mekhi.
"What the fuck is wrong with you Ash." Mekhi growled, but neither of them commented further on the issue, and I let out a breath of relief. Thank goodness. I don't think I can take one more fucking word of an argument.
We made it to the counter, and the guy looked up at us with a gentle smile. He had the softest brown eyes I had ever seen, and kind of looked like he'd had one hell of a rough day. "Room for three?" He asked, his voice so warm it was literally melting. Was this guy for real? Mekhi nodded, rummaging through his pockets and chucking some money on the table moodily. The guy didn't even flinch as he picked up the money and counted it. He glanced at Ash. "You guys look like you've had a rough day, hey?"
I snorted. I don't know why. I tend to laugh at bad moments. Mekhi looked at me like I was crazy, which made me want to laugh even more. And cry my fucking head off.
The guy smiled again, handing a coin back to Mekhi. Jeez. If I were him I would not have given anything back to someone so rude. Wow. "My name's Wolf." He was still smiling. "Do you guys need anything? A drink, or do you want me to show you to your rooms?"
Mekhi rolled his eyes at Wolf. "I've got to go find a friend, okay guys? Stay here with this... Wolf." He looked weirdly amused by the name as, he gave Ash a few coins and walked away, straight out of the inn.
"Well. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Wolf commented. He had both hands on the bench and was leaning forward a little. When neither of us replied, he slid back, grabbing some glasses from behind the bench. "You guys really look like you need a drink. What would you like?"
Ash snorted. "Give us your worst."
I think Wolf and I were both surprised by his statement, but Wolf just shrugged. "Cool. My worst, coming right up."
It took him about two seconds to conjure up two drinks, both crystal clear. I narrowed my eyes at it suspiciously, whereas Ash took the smallish glass from Wolf's hands and without hesitation took a huge mouthful, draining half of it in one go.
He instantly began coughing and spluttering, putting the cup down and glaring at it with red and teary eyes. Wolf barked out a laugh, slapping his hand down on the table. "Wow! I've never seen that before! Are you okay?"
"What is that?" Ash gasped, wiping at his eyes, as I took a tentative sip. It burnt my throat on my way down, the sweet taste bitter on my tongue. I cringed majorly, though I kind of liked it.
"My worst." Wolf stated with a shrug, grinning. "Pretty bloody strong. My only advice is take it a sip at a time," he snorted, "not in mouthfuls, okay?"
"How much?" Ash asked as I took another sip, not cautious anymore.
"Ah, nothing. This one's on the house." Wolf replied. "Like I said, you guys really look like you need it. Enjoy it, because I don't give out free drinks often... what are your names?"
"I'm Isaak, and this is... Aiden." I couldn't remember Ash's fake name for the life of me, so I said the first one that came to mind. "Also, thanks."
Ash and I glanced at each other, shrugged, and both took another sip. I savoured the burning sensation, enjoying the lingering flavour in my mouth.
Hey guys... sorry this chapter is a little weird... I wrote it about two weeks ago and only just read it over again then XD
