Mekhi's p.o.v

I don't know how I'm still alive. I don't know how my country is still alive.

This is what went through my mind almost every day, as I sat on the throne my father and brother used to rule from. Even my brother seemed incredulous.

He enjoyed cornering me whenever he could and pointing out how much of a pointless King I was. That all I'd done in one and a half years is sign a treaty. The only benefit that had was ensuring we wouldn't get attacked by Vandalind. Colm was in charge of training the troops, and as King I was supposed to oversee his efforts. However, I had yet to step foot on the training grounds.

I had spent the time hating Colm for naming me King, and trying to find out what it is a King does. Colm, as a living Ex-King, was meant to assist me, but of course as a living brother he was hell. He just managed to keep me from running the country into the ground, but I suppose he was otherwise waiting for me to give up.

There's no way I was going to just give up. He had given the crown to me; that was his problem. I was King now, and as much as I never wanted the title, I would lay down my life to serve my country as a true King should.

"King Kay-kay!"

Only one person called me that horrendous name. "What do you want, Colm?" I threw my legs off the arms of the throne and watched him as he strode over to me.

"Just saying hello to my dear brother. How has your day of nothing been?"

I scowled, "busy."

"Bull shit," Colm said as he rolled his amber eyes, "you can't be that busy sitting on the throne for four hours with nothing but yourself. Not even a scrap of paper to write down a 'to do' list."

"I was thinking!"

"About how pathetic your life is? It shouldn't take that long to think about. You were born, your King sent you on a mission, you betrayed your king, your king named you king, and now you suck at being a king. Ta da! Sucky life story over." He stepped over to me and cautiously sat himself on the arm of the chair, watching me in case I decided to punch his face. The thought was tempting.

"You're worse," I muttered, "you were born, you killed a King, you became King, you failed being King, and..." I threw my hands in the air, "now you're just a dick!" I finished as a loud snap.

"Um..." I heard the voice and snapped my head to the door Colm had left open, spotting the Head Guard, Liam, watching us hesitantly. He stepped back, "I'll come back another time, your majesties." He bowed to me and scurried away.

Colm burst out laughing, "very appropriate language, your majesty!"

"Why did he say your majesties?" I grumbled, "you're not a majesty anymore."

"Still a prince," my awful brother winked at me.

"Leave me."

"No. I actually came for a reason."

I did not believe him for a second. He sighed, but before he spoke, I shoved him off the throne. With a yelp and scuffle, he fell to the hard floor. He remained sitting as he spoke to me.

"Look, little brother. I want to be a better brother."

I shot him a look.

Colm sighed again. "I will help you learn to be a better King. I was a good King but you're hopeless. I know you won't give up because... well, because we're brothers, and if I were you, I wouldn't give up either. So," he rose to his feet and bowed, "if your majesty will allow, from tomorrow onwards I will teach you the ways of Kings."

I stared at him. Unbelievable. Purely unbelievable. "As long as you're aware that I hate you."

He grinned, "I am aware."

"Good." I rolled my shoulders, wondering how to accept his offer while still being a King and not a student. "You may leave."

He bowed again. "Of course, your majesty." With one last grin over his shoulder, he scurried away.

He was happier now he wasn't King. I think the weight being pulled off his shoulders was rewarding for him, though he would never admit it. He was an amazing swordsman; the training grounds was where he belonged. He was a good teacher. Though I would never say that aloud to his arrogant face.

The Head Guard returned. He was a knight, really, but a few months ago I had given him the new position, so he was able to spend all of his time in the castle. The doors shut behind him, and he flinched at the noise they made.

"Yes, Liam?" I stepped away from the throne, towards him.

He took to his knee in a deep bow. "Your majesty." He said.

I stood in front of him now, "what is it?"

He looked up, his familiar brown eyes gazing into mine.

"Stand," I murmured, unsure of myself. He did as I said and did not back away. "Colm says he will teach me how to be a King, tomorrow." I told him.

"You are already a great king." Liam breathed, moments away from me.

I smiled, "not really..." I swallowed, our mouths almost touching. Hesitant and already regretful, I looked down, "we cannot do this today, Liam," I whispered to him, "later."

I felt his lips against my cheek. He moved away. "Of course, my King."

I watched his back as he left the room. It hurt to see him go, but we were aware of the inappropriateness of our relationship and comfortable with the secrecy.

As long as I had Liam, I suppose I should be fine.

What do ya'll think of this one????? Forbidden love! Annoying brothers! How dramatic... Hehe :)) He's kind of just pulling through...
